THOR 2

As we reported here at CBR last night, director Patty Jenkins has left the project due to "creative differences." Marvel is moving quickly to find a replacement in order to keep its previously established release date. I'm sorry to see her go as she was a provocative and different choice from the standard list of mid-level action directors.

Starring Chris Hemsworth, release date: Novemeber 13th, 2013

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Gary Oldman talks with Moviefone about the film, which he states is the concluding chapter in the "Begins" story. "Nolan rounds it off: he brings in a bit of the first one, from 'Batman Begins,' and he does some really surprising things with it," he explains. "I thought his choice of villain was very interesting, to use Bane instead of Riddler or Penguin. He's not gone with the most obvious choice. The challenge for Chris was always really the story and I think he didn't want to make a third one for the sake of it. I think there was pressure on him, obviously, because the second was so successful." Meanwhile, Cosmic Book News hears word that the Batcave will resemble its "Batman Begins" counterpart with a few alterations:

There have been upgrades with better lighting than the basic generator powered ones put up in 'Batman Begins.'

There is a whole new batcomputer similar to the set up in 'The Dark Knight.'

There is a weapons area where all of Batman's equipment used in both films, plus new gadgets, can be seen.

There is also a cabinet containing both Batsuits.

Their source also claims the cave will have as much screentime as it did in the first movie. Hey Warner Bros, in the next Batman movie cycle, can he have the giant penny and the dinosaur? I know they don't fit into Nolan's vision, but I'd love to see a Batcave with trophies. It makes the place more homey.

Release date: July 20th, 2012

THE AVENGERS

The Vulture got the blogs all in flutter yesterday when their interview with actress Cobie Smulders suggested that her "Avengers" character, Maria Hill, has a superpower in the film. The site has since updated her quote to read "If she had a superpower it would be that she is hyperintelligent; a very nice, fine woman who has all the answers." In this day and age, hyperintelligence is a superpower.

Directed by Joss Whedon & starring everybody, release date: May 4th, 2012

SUPERMAN: THE MAN OF STEEL

According to The Playlist, composer Hans Zimmer clarified his status while talking to the press over the weekend. "'Man of Steel' is in direct conflict with something else, and I haven't worked it out yet," he says. "That rumor keeps floating around, [but] I'm not engaging that one at the moment." If I may make one suggestion to whoever ends up composing the film: keep the John Williams title theme.

Directed by Zack Snyder, release date: June 14th 2013

A MUPPETLESS FUTURE?

So "The Muppets" isn't setting box office records, but Jim Hill Media suggests that it won't deter Disney from continuing to foster the brand. "Interestingly enough, the message that I heard -- consistently and repeatedly -- was that, in spite of whatever was going to happen at the box office this past weekend as well as throughout the rest of the month of December, the Company would continue to stand behind 'The Muppets,'" writes Hill. "Mouse House managers still feel that this film did a decent job of relaunching - more importantly, re-energizing -- the Muppet franchise." That's good to hear because a future without the Muppets would be a poorer one indeed. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of my own puppet show.
