Variety reports that actor Tim Roth is set to play Emil Blonsky, the alter ego of the villain Abomination in next year's "The Incredible Hulk." Roth is the latest addition to the cast of Marvel Studios and Universal Studios' reinvention of their beleaguered Hulk franchise, following the announcements of Edward Norton as Bruce Banner/the Hulk and Liv Tyler as Betty Ross.
Roth's character Emil Blonsky is a KGB agent who deliberately exposes himself to the same gamma radiation that transformed Bruce Banner into the Hulk. Unlike Banner, Blonsky is unable to return to human form due to the greater quantity of gamma radation to which he was exposed.
"The Incredible Hulk" is directed by Louis Leterrier, the filmmaker behind cult action hits "The Transporter," "The Transporter 2," and "Danny the Dog" (known as "Unleashed" in the US). The screenplay is written by Zak Penn ("X-Men: The Last Stand," "Elektra"). "The Incredible Hulk" is released June 13, 2008.
