Official Press Release

LOS ANGELES -- On Saturday, June 2nd, Brave New World Comics in Santa Clarita, California will be celebrating 17 years in business, and one year in their best location yet. In order to celebrate this occasion, they wanted to do something truly remarkable for their regular customers and fans…something that had never before been done at a comic shop. Something so spectacular that fans and families alike would be talking about it for years to come. "But, since we couldn't get anyone to volunteer to be bitten by a radioactive spider in front of a crowd, we decided on comedy night," conceded Brave New World proprietor of prolific punctuation Atom! Freeman.

Enter the Intergalactic Defenders of Comedy, a troupe of stand-up comedy performers whose secret headquarters (The Improv, in Hollywood) is fumigating for geeks that week, so they needed a place to crash. The Intergalactic Defenders of Comedy (I.G.D.O.C.) have made it their life's work to bring geek-flavored comedy to the masses and fight crime with the power of pop culture trivia and superhero jokes. "None of them volunteered to get bitten either, but I saw their show and I laughed until my Flash t-shirt split. So, I figured that they could help us celebrate," persisted Atom! pragmatically.

Proceeds from this evening of four colored hilarity will go to the Hero Initiative. Donations will be collected at the door and at the bar!

Located at the corner of Chestnut and Lyons in the yellow Victorian building, Brave New World Comics will be transformed into world's first comic shop/comedy club. Starting at 8:30 pm, the finest in nerd based comedy will be served up by host Mike Black, his cast of irregulars, and nearly seven feet of special guest, Tyler Mane (X-Men's Sabretooth and Halloween's newest Michael Myers)

The Hero Initiative is the first-ever federally chartered not-for-profit corporation dedicated strictly to helping comic book creators in need. Hero Initiative creates a financial safety net for yesterdays' creators who may need emergency medical aid, financial support for essentials of life, and an avenue back into paying work.
