A week ago DC Comics announced that Aquaman will return full time to the DC Universe in the appropriately titled "Aquaman #1" this December. Today, DC sent CBR News a sneak peak at what Arthur Curry, AKA Aquaman, will look like.

This new "Aquaman" series rolls out of the "The Obsidian Age: The Hunt for Aquaman" storyline that runs in the pages of "JLA" this summer. The new series will be written by Rick Veitch with art by Yvel Guichet and Mark Propst. Events played out on the "Obsidian Age" storyline lead directly into the new series launch.

"Without giving too much away, let me say that Aquaman's missing hand will

play a big part in the new series in a way that will resonate with classic

Arthurian legends," Veitch said in the release. "We're also going to explore water in a

way that's never been done in 'Aquaman' before." Veitch also plans to expand the supporting cast, including appearances by past characters and locales such as Atlantis and Poseidonis.

"At the end of 'Obsidian Age,' Aquaman will be in a shockingly different

place than he was previously," said Dan Raspler, Group Editor for DC Comics. "Rick's

experiences with other comics projects gives him a unique viewpoint on

super-heroes. He's bringing new depth to Aquaman, taking the character, his

powers and situations and looking at them in an entirely new way."

"The Obsidian Age" storyline begins in "JLA #67" which ships tomorrow, June 26th.
