Giant monsters rule the box office. That is, after the fantastic opening of "Cloverfield," from producer J.J. Abrams which sees a monster in the style of Godzilla wreaking total havok on New York City. The giant monster has rampaged through films for years, but disappeared from the silver screen for some time prior to the release of "Cloverfield." But that doesn't mean these gargantuan creatures were down and out. Not at all.
Boom! Studios has recently released a trade collection of "Giant Monster," from the mind of horror master Steve Niles and artist Nat Jones. It's got plenty of giant monster mayhem, like you'd expect from a book called "Giant Monster," with some extra twists thrown in for good measure.
"The story's about a shuttle pilot, Colonel Don Maggert, who's going on his first solo mission to the JFK International Space Station," Niles told CBR News in a 2005 interview. "When he left for his mission he was having a few marital problems, a few drinking problems, basically he's having problems with his life in general. This flight is really a big turning point that allows him to get his life together and to get back out there. While he's flying back, he's attacked by a space parasite! It devours his body, he crashes into the ocean and our story begins."
Boom! Studios has provided CBR with the entire contents of the book which we'll serialize over the coming weeks. We begin with the first 22 pages of the story and every day of the week (weekends included) we'll add an additional page of the story right at this URL. If you can't wait to find out what happens before the two months it'll take to get to the conclusion, ask your local comic shop to order you a copy if they don't have it in stock already.
