Image Comics Signs with Diamond for book distribution

Diamond Book Distributors and Image Comics have reached an agreement naming Diamond as the exclusive distributor of the publisher's graphic novels to the bookstore, book wholesaler, library, warehouse club, and mass merchandise markets. The deal also includes titles from TMP Productions, which publishes Spawn and other top-selling titles, as well as Top Cow, home of Witchblade, Tomb Raider and other media favorites. After a decade of innovation and market leadership, Image is ready to expand the audience for its roster of top talents and best-selling licenses to the bookstore and library markets through this new partnership with Diamond.

Image Comics was founded in 1992 by a collective of the industry's hottest young artists, including Erik Larsen, Todd McFarlane, Marc Silvestri, and Jim Valentino. When Image's comics debuted to record-setting sales, its status was secured, and the company has been one of the top three publishers in the industry since its inception.

Image has played a major role in the evolution of graphic storytelling by publishing innovative creator-owned works like McFarlane's Spawn, Larsen's Savage Dragon, Silvestri's Witchblade and many others. As a home to some of the top creators in the industry, Image boasts such properties as comics scribe/director Kevin Smith's Bluntman and Chronic, Ultimate Spider-Man writer Brian Michael Bendis's award-winning Powers, the upcoming continuation of the popular G.I. Joe, and white-hot artist Michael Avon Oeming's Bulletproof Monk, soon to be a major motion picture. Image has also created comics, graphic novels, toys, and other projects with famous creators outside the comics industry, including best-selling horror author Clive Barker and Academy Award-winning special effects producer Stan Winston.

In addition, Image has emerged as a key force in the field of licensed comics, generating high consumer excitement with best-selling projects based on such established pop-culture franchises as Tomb Raider, Battle of the Planets, Masters of the Universe, Micronauts and the previously mentioned G.I. Joe.
