Saturday June 7th, The Los Angeles Public Library's Will & Ariel Durant Branch will have a special program for Teens and Adults on the making of comic books and graphic novels by local creator, Joshua Hale Fialkov. This hands on event will feature a Q&A environment wherein Fialkov will discuss his time and experience writing comics and graphic novels, Topics covered will include webcomics, mini-comics, self-publishing, working with book and comic publishers, finding collaborators, and getting your work seen. Several local comic creators are expected to be in attendance to contribute their input as well.
This is the second event at the Los Angeles Public Library for Fialkov, who previously hosted the "Future of Graphic Literature" panel at the Central Library featuring comic creators Mark Waid, Christos Gage, Kazu Kibuishi, Tony Fleecs, and Ross Richie. "I'm a big fan of the LAPL, I think that it's not just a valuable resource, but an amazing gift to our community," Fialkov says. "The library system in L.A. has been very supportive of the graphic novel form, and wants to let people know more about the medium and help the next generation of creators along."
The Will & Ariel Durant Branch is located in Hollywood at 7140 W. Sunset Blvd. The event will be held on June 7th at 4:30pm.
Joshua Hale Fialkov is the creator of the Harvey Award nominated Elk's Run from Random House, was one of the winners of Top Cow Productions Pilot Season program and has worked in and around the publishing world for the better part of a decade. He has worked for publishers including Marvel, DC, Random House, Top Cow Productions, Tor Books, IDW Publishing, Del Rey Manga, Dark Horse Comics, Dabel Brothers, St. Martins Press, and Harris Comics.
