Newly launched Marvel Comics series “Captain Britain and MI:13” has since its debut last month caught an uncommon degree of attention from not just superhero fans, but also the mainstream UK press. Britain’s Mirror published a story noting real-life British Prime Minister Gordon Brown's appearance in the “Secret Invasion” tie-in comic, and the item was subsequently picked up by several British news sources including the Telegraph, the Guardian, and the Daily Mail, all with varying degrees of both enthusiasm and incredulousness concerning the beleaguered British leader’s heroic role in the story.
The Mirror quoted “Captain Britain and MI:13” writer Paul Cornell as saying, “I'm pleased we've given [Brown] a PR boost on both sides of the Atlantic and around the world" and "I feel quite sorry for him, so I'm glad I've contributed a bit."
