| "DC Universe Online" is rumored to be released in 2009 |
Lee did not offer an abundance of details about the game, but did say that players would be able to create their own heroes or villains and interact with the characters of the DC Universe. The influential creator asked the crowd to think about what it would be like to work with Batman or Superman, teaming up to take down criminals. Lee also talked about being able to team up with villains to stage a breakout from Arkham Asylum, or even join forces with Lex Luthor to defeat the Man of Steel.
What followed was a quick trailer that showed some of the most high profile DCU heroes, namely Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern. Several villains including the Joker, Bane, Luthor, Sinestro and Bizarro also made appearances. Some melee combat was shown, as well as a snippet of The Flash running down the street with a blur behind him, and Superman using his ice breath on an enemy. Locations included Gotham and Metropolis. The trailer also included clips of the storyboarding and character design work that went into the game.
While there wasn’t a whole lot to see, what was there looked promising to the E3 crowd. No release date was given for “DC Universe Online,” but rumors are that we may see it sometime in 2009. The game recently launched its own MySpace page, which can be found at http://www.myspace.com/dcuo.
