Official Press Release

[Come In Alone]SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. (July 30, 2001) Publisher Larry Young announced today that AiT/Planet Lar's latest book, Warren Ellis' collection of comic book industry commentary and analysis, Come in Alone, has sold out of its initial print run and is going back to press for a second printing.

"This one surprised even me," said Young. "I mean, I knew that Come in Alone would come to be regarded as an important work in print, a milestone even, just based on Warren's 'Old Bastard's Manifesto' alone. So I convinced AiT/Planet Lar editor and publisher Mimi Rosenheim to let us overprint rather more than we really should haveā€¦ and even those extra copies had sold out in a matter of six weeks. It goes to show that overprinting is valuable for publishers, retailers, and readers alike. And even then, it's always fun to go back to press. We'll keep making 'em as long as even ONE person wants to read a copy."

Unsurprisingly, Ellis himself knew the score, too. "Come in Alone lays out the realities and the future of the Western comics business as well as I can, for the enthusiast as well as the casually interested. The book's reception makes it clear that both kinds of readers get the point, the same point that drove the hobbyists mad with hate in its serialisation: Change is good. Change is needed. And comics are about more than the crap that pollutes the majority of comics store shelves."
