News Corp.’s 20th Century Fox says an unfinished pirated version of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” has been downloaded about four million times, rather than the previously reported one million times. “[Piracy of intellectual property including movies] is as big an act of industrial espionage, industrial sabotage, as we have seen in terms of its economic impact,” News Corp. COO Peter Chernin told Reuters
According to Reuters, an average ticket price of $7.18 could conceivably – but not likely – have cost Fox $28.7 million in ticket sales.
Nevertheless, “Wolverine” debuted last weekend to $85 million in the U.S. box office, the highest opening of 2009.
