The Hollywood Reporter’s Heat Vision blog reported Tuesday that director Jon Favreau and actor Robert Downey, Jr., both of “Iron Man” fame, are to bring to life another comic book property, “Cowboys and Aliens.”

Created by Fred Van Lente and Andrew Foley and published by Platinum Comics, “Cowboys and Aliens” depicts an 1800s Old West world under attack from aliens.

Writing the adaptation will be “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” and “Star Trek” screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, along with “Lost” Executive Producer Damon Lindelof. The trio worked together previously on “Star Trek.”

“Cowboys and Aliens” is expected to open in 2011 from DreamWorks.
