THE GREEN HORNET
The set of "Green Hornet is a dangerous place, it seems. A while back, there was that car crash, and now, a bomb scare. TMZ reports the crew found "an unidentified metal object." The bomb squad came out and blew up the object, which had no incendiary material inside. Okay, maybe not a dangerous set, but certainly it is oddly eventful. Meanwhile, Edward James Olmos tells the Los Angeles Times he is enjoying himself on set. " I'm having a lot of fun. People are really going to like what we've done," says the actor.
Starring Seth Rogen, release date: December 17th, 2010
The CW has posted a clip from this Friday's episode, "Metallo," on their YouTube channel. It features Brian Austin Green and what appears to be a re-enactment of the old "waking up in a bathtub without kidneys" story. Except, in this case, it is his heart.
New episode: Friday
THE WALKING DEAD
MTV News caught up with "The Walking Dead" creator Robert Kirkman about Frank Darabont's development of the television series. "Frank understands the material 100 percent. It's always been shocking to me, doing Hollywood meetings over the years, just how easy it is for someone to come in to the meeting and say something like, 'We want the zombies to have super powers.' Knowing that, I'm really excited about it, because from my discussions with Frank, he likes the right things about 'Walking Dead,' says Kirkman.
Release date: TBA
Australian website Inside Film reports the film may move to Mexico. While a final decision has not been made, the site notes, "If the shoot does proceed at Fox Studios Australia it would add more than $US20 million to production costs due to the rising dollar." Last month, when news of the production situation first broke, Louisiana was also suggested as a replacement home for the shoot.
Directed by Martin Campbell, release date: June 17th, 2011
JOHN CARTER OF MARS
Thomas Haden Church, James Purefoy and Mark Strong have joined the cast, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While all three are fine actors, I'm going to focus on Purefoy because he was great in HBO's "Rome" as Mark Antony. "Purefoy plays Kantos Kan, the captain of the Xavarian, the kingdom of Helium's grand warship," according to the report. Church is set to play "Tal Hajus, an ambitious and vicious Thark warrior who is biding his time to be a ruler." Meanwhule, Strong will take on the role of Matai Shang, which THR describes as "the ruler of the Thems with godlike status."
Starring Taylor Kitsch, release date: TBA
RHI Entertainment has posted a trailer on YouTube for their forthcoming Syfy miniseries based on the ghost that walks. It is set in the modern day and revolves around the training of the twenty-first Phantom.

JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRISIS ON TWO EARTHS
MTV News took a look at the special feature on "Batman/Superman: Public Enemies" previewing the next DC Animated Universe film. While they mention plenty that is already known, they have posted some swell screengrabs of Ultraman and Power Ring. They also mention the film had its source in an abandoned "Justice League Unlimited" storyline.
Release date: 2010
MARTIAN TIME SLIP
Yesterday, I lamented the lack of high profile fantasy flicks, a reader emailed me with a reminder of "John Carter of Mars," based on Edgar Rice Burroughs' "A Princess of Mars," which I reported on a few days ago and have some news about today. Despite the fact this film will be marketed as a sci-fi flick because it takes place on Mars, it is the exact sort of film I want to see. Thanks! If any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of genre discussions.
