GREEN LANTERN

It is looking more and more likely production will commence in New Orleans. According to the Times-Picayune, Second Line Stages in the city has been contacted by "producers and that 'Green Lantern' production offices could be set up in town as early as this week." Their source, Kevin Murphy, manager of studio operations says, "We are working out the details,  and we have a nonrefundable contract" to rent stage space to the production." If everything works out, the first "Green Lantern" production personnel would move in as soon as December with shooting beginning in March.

Starring Ryan Reynolds, release date: June 17th, 2011

TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES

Variety reports this morning that Nickelodeon has acquired the "global rights" to property. Nickelodeon will control the franchise going forward with a new computer-animated series slated to air in 2012. How does this change plans on the feature? According to the article, "Paramount will steer a new 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' feature to the bigscreen, planned for 2012. Scott Mednick ('300') is producing the pic."

Release date: 2012?

JOHN CARTER OF MARS

Toward the end of an interview with Willem Dafoe, Ain't It Cool News asked him about the film and his Martian role. Though work on the film is still some time away for the actor, Dafoe did say, "they'll use my face, but they'll enhance it in a way -- both after and before -- in a way that I may not be recognizable. But, I'm good with that. It's particularly cool, because he's a creature, but he's got this huge range of character."

Directed by Andrew Stanton, release date: TBA

CRIMINAL MACABRE

MTV News asked Thomas Jane about starring in the film. "Universal is interested in putting together a Cal McDonald film and, well ... we'll see what happens," the actor responded.

Release date: TBA

YOU PLAY A GOOD GAME, BOY

David Lynch only aspires to be as odd as "Phantasm." The film, about a grieving boy fighting a personification of death, is defined by its unusual tone. Strange things happen, but no one is entirely surprised by fingers that turn into flies or a mortician who bleeds mustard. Most of the film may be a dream, but then again, it might not. While not as well known as Freddy or Jason, the Tall Man has achieved at least some iconic status. If you've never seen it, run out and get it. It is a very special film. I may be exposing it to a new group tonight. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The power is yours! Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of posthumous dwarves.
