HOPING IT WOULD RUB OFF

I saw David Cronenberg's "The Brood" for the first time last year. It's a very moody, ambivalent work. Focused on a husband trying to retrieve his wife from an experimental psychological treatment which allows her to make all her pain, jealousy, and other emotional baggage manifest as evil little children while protecting his naturally born daughter. The movie is downright silly whenever one of these painchildren appears on screen to do some something "scary," but the desolation of a Toronto winter in the late 1970s and the main character's own attempts to come to grips with what his wife is capable of make the film work despite any silliness. This is a Cronenberg film, so thar be intestines. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of psychoplasmics.
