SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK

The other shoe (er, web-shooter?) has dropped. According to the New York Times Arts Beat blog, the production is delayed from its February 25th, 2010 preview dates, citing "weeks of production delays and ongoing difficulties recruiting additional investors for the show, according to executive involved in the production." The effort goes on to secure more investors and cast other roles.

SPIDER-MAN 4

So you may have heard some scuttle about the Lizard being the only villain in the film. It seems this rumor began at a site called MarketSaw. Last week, that same site rankled the geek beat when they erroneously reported plans for a new "Star Wars" trilogy (the fabled Episodes VII,VIII, and IX) was in pre-production and to be shot in 3-D. Lucasfilm's Steve Sansweet later called the rumor "ignorant and stupid." It is not surprising that sites like Collider and I are treating this with more than a grain of salt. I suppose the white cliffs of Dover would be the appropriate metaphor. With the script not in a finalized form and no official confirmation of cast beyond the two leads, these rumors flirt with the craziness of the "Batman 3" stuff.

Directed by Sam Raimi, release date: May 5th, 2011

30 DAYS OF NIGHT: DARK DAYS

According to the Twitter page of IDW's Chris Ryall (via MTV News), shooting has commenced on the "30 Days of Night" sequel as of Monday.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Framelight is developing the project as a feature. They describe the comic as "set in a dystopian New York -- the city has lost its independence and become a prefecture of Japan -- and centers on a seemingly ordinary young woman who has been tapped as a heroine and must fight samurais, robots and zombies to protect her loved ones."

Release date: TBA

JUSTICE LEAGUE: CRISIS ON TWO EARTHS

Voices from Krypton at Comic Book Movie has a write-up on the making of the upcoming DC Universe Animated film. It features quotes from writer Dwayne McDuffie and voice castmembers William Baldwin, Mark Harmon, James Woods, and Gina Torres.

SILVER SHAMROCK

"Halloween III: Season of the Witch" gets a bad wrap. It's a movie whose only crime is NOT featuring Michael Myers. John Carpenter and his partners discussed the idea of making each "Halloween" a new, unconnected story following the second film. "Season of the Witch," directed by Carpenter collaborator Tommy Lee Wallace, was their only attempt. Concerning a schlub, a young woman looking for her father, and a sinister Halloween mask company. There are also Irish robots that bleed pea soup. It's a not a great movie, but certainly something different from the pack. It also features a great performance by character actor Dan O'Herlihy as the mask company president. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of commercials.
