CBR News was invited to a sneak peak at the trailer for "Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time" and a brief chat with producer Jerry Bruckheimer and "Prince of Persia" creator Jordan Mechner. While the trailer and the interview will available in full next week, we can tell you a little bit about it. Starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Kingsley, Gemma Arterton, Alfred Molina, "Prince of Persia: the Sands of Time" is a big budget action/adventure picture based on the 2003 video game of the same name. The trailer introduces the basic premise of the film, Gyllenhaal's character comes into contact with a dagger which allows the bearer to reverse the flow of time. With a mysterious princess, he must take the dagger to a place of safety. The actual rewind effect is seen several times as is some of the lovely desert footage from the productions shoot in Morocco.

For fans of the game series, the trailer also features a good amount of the lead character leaping off walls and collapsing floors. The film appears to strike a similar tone to Bruckheimer's "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise with action beats tempered with comedy and character by-play. From the trailer, Gyllenhaal's prince appears to be in the Indiana Jones school of heroics. Also glimpsed are several moments of interaction between Gyllenhaal and Arterton's princess character. The film is directed by Mike Newell, who helmed "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire." Parts of the trailer are reminiscent of that film as well. The film will be out Memorial Day Weekend, 2010 and the trailer will unspool onto theater screens in mid-November.
