GREEN LANTERN

So here's an odd one. MTV News and a couple of other sites are reporting the film has recieved its go-ahead and will commence production in March. Their source is the blog of visual effects supervisor Karen Goulekas. Going to the link the MTV article quotes from gets you an error and the most recent entry on the blog's main site is from October of 2009. Superhero Hype has the full text of the presumably deleted post, in which Goulekas writes, "Wow! Been a long time since I posted! But today is a day worth posting about! Green Lantern got the official green light today! And not a second too soon - only 10 weeks out from shooting!" Is this the work of Mysterio or someone jumping the gun?

Directed by Martin Campbell, release date: June 17th, 2011

THOR

Heat Vision reports Adriana Barraza is in negotiations to play a human in the film. Known for her work in "Babel," she recently appeared in Sam Raim's "Drag Me to Hell."

Starring Chris Hemsworth, release date May 6th, 2011

G.I. JOE 2

IESB has discovered the identities of the writers charged with bringing the Joes to their second live action adventure: the "Zombieland" duo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. The writers were also recently announced as the team for "Deadpool."

Release date: TBA

GHOST RIDER: SPIRIT OF VENGENCE

Collider spoke with producer Mike De Luca about the "Ghost Rider" sequel. According to the producer, "We have an outline that David [Goyer]wrote that kind of adapts his 2001 script into today's times with incorporating kind of an original idea of Nic's that Goyer thought added to the mix in good way." The film will not feature the Eva Mendes character from the first film and director Mark Steven Johnson will not be participating in the production of the sequel. De Luca even suggests writer David Goyer would be welcome to helm the picture. "David would be kind of a new director to the mix in terms of not having done anything with 'Ghost Rider' before. I've talked about it with him just because I'm a fan of David's. A lot depends on his schedule and a lot depends on where we are when the script comes in," he said.

Release date: TBA

THE BOOK OF ELI

My interview series continues with the directors of the film, the Hughes Brothers here at CBR. The pair discussed their working relationship. "There are heated arguments and friction because he's thinking one way and I'm thinking another," Albert Hughes explained. "I'm trying to make a pretty picture. He's trying to make a pretty performance."

Directed by the Hughes Brothers, release date: January 15th, 2010

JOHN CARTER OF MARS

io9.com spoke with actor Willem Defoe about playing Tars Tarkas in the film. "When someone asks you to make a movie directed by Andrew Stanton, with Disney behind, a big tent-pole movie ... I know from making 'Finding Nemo' how these Pixar guys work. They're very thorough , they're very rigorous, they really get it. It's a real pleasure because you get so protected because they are so well researched. And you get so much help trying to make something," said Defoe. The actor admits he will not be isolated in a motion capture or green screen studio. "We do play the scenes, it's not like some people's fantasies where they put you in a room and they sample you and they go off and they do this computer magic," he explained. According to Defoe, production is scheduled to being on the 18th.

Release date: TBA

IRON MAN 2

War Machine co-creator Bob Layton tells MTV News a rumor about actress Kate Mara playing the Bethany Cabe character is incorrect. "That's not the case. I think she plays an FBI agent briefly in the movie. There are no plans for Bethany Cabe in this movie, as far as I know," said Layton. Layton also suggests a third film could follow the classic "Demon in a Bottle" storyline, in which Tony confronts his chemical dependancy. "My understanding is that the third film could very well be the 'Demon in a Bottle' story mixed in there with everything and I'm kind of looking forward to that, if that’s where they wind up going," Layton continued.

Starring Robert Downey Jr., release date: May 7th, 2010

WEEKEND GETAWAY

Cue up the rum drinks and get that Clash record playing, it's the weekend! The first non-holiday weekend of the Year We Make Contact, in fact. I may actually get around to seeing "Avatar" or "Dr. Parnassus" this weekend. Or maybe I'll just hole up with "Dragon Age" as the workweek is incompatible with that game. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, just plain weird, or spot Mysterio up to his usual hijinks this weekend, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of sleeping in.
