GREEN LANTERN

According to Hitfix, a rumor which first broke at Ain't It Cool News might be true. "Jackie Earle Haley is the only choice for Sinestro by the studio," writes Hitfix's Drew McWeeny. "The groundwork is being laid in the first 'Lantern' for a much larger role for Sinestro later on if this first movie does well, and they like the idea of continuing their relationship with Haley." This makes sense to me. You have to like Sinestro before you can hate him and Haley is equal parts likable and despicable. Considering how fast new on this film is coming now, expect an announcement anytime soon. I've noticed the major casting announcements on this film tend to come in at 3pm on Fridays.

Directed by Martin Campbell, release date: June 17th, 2011

IRON MAN 2

Stan Lee teases his cameo appearance over at his Twitter page. "In Iron Man 2 my cameo might make you think of Larry King! Can't say more than that or director Jon Favreau might take away my stunt double," writes Lee. Earlier reports did suggest Lee would appear as a King-style interviewer during a televised discussion with Tony Stark. I wonder if he'll have suspenders to make it real obvious? Meanwhile, the film will be released in IMAX simultaneously.

Starring Robert Downey Jr., release date: May 7th, 2010

CONAN

Deadline Hollywood -- who seems to have gotten into the superhero and popcorn movie reporting business in between items about the NBC/Conan meltdown --reports a shortlist of actors for the coveted role of the Cimmerian who will become king. "Last weekend, it seemed like things came down to two buff finalists: Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen in the Twilight Saga sequels 'New Moon' and 'Eclipse'), and Jason Momoa (Ronon Dex in the TV series 'Stargate: Atlantis'). Suddenly, Millennium and partner Lionsgate decided today to look at another unnamed but better established actor before deciding," writes Deadline. IGN reports a list of three possible actors who could be the third actor on the short list. I know, that's kind of confusing. IGN is betting on "Supernatural's" Jared Padalecki as the third actor on the short list. I've noticed once short lists leak, the deal and announcement aren't far behind.

Release date: TBA

HUMAN TARGET

Chi McBride tells MTV News about his character in the series. IESB has a longer interview with Jackie Earl Haley, who appears in the series as Guerrero. "I just thought it was a real interesting, fascinating character, especially in this action-hero world. He's definitely an unhinged character, and that always fascinates me. It's a really fun process, working with these guys, in terms of figuring out exactly where we are going with them. It's a neat process, as every week a couple more little layers come to be. It's fun developing and getting to add some multi-dimension with this guy," says Haley. IESB also has an interview with McG, an executive producer on the series.

Premieres: January 17th, 2010

JOHN CARTER OF MARS

"Breaking Bad's" Brian Cranston joined the cast of the Martian epic this week, according to Heat Vision. "Cranston plays a Civil War colonel who comes into conflict with Carter," they write. The article also mentions the film will start production next week.

Directed by Andrew Stanton, release date: TBA

THE BOOK OF ELI

My review of the film is up here at CBR. I find the movie to be a thoughtful sci-fi actioner. IGN praises its craftsmanship, but cautions its religious implication. Collider dismisses the issue of faith, but calls it a good western tale without being a western. MTV's Kurt Loder found the movie to be the same old post-apocalyptic nonsense. Ain't It Cool News also praised the film for its performances and discussion of faith. To sum up: it's worth watching, but there is religious content.

Directed by the Hughes Brothers, release date: January 15th, 2010

WEEKEND GETAWAY

Cue the Loverboy track and get me some NyQuil, it's the weekend! I'm still not feeling my best, so I'll be sleeping in for most of the weekend unless I'm awakened by Sinestro. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, just plain weird, or spot Mysterio up to his usual hi-jinks, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of Robitussin.
