SGT. ROCK

The Los Angeles Times spoke with producer Joel Silver about his planned film, which will see Sgt. Rock transported into a future war. I'l let Silver explain: "As a war movie, it's not going to be 'where it's been,' it's going to be 'where it's going.' We didn't want to do Iraq, we didn't want to do a contemporary war. We wanted to do a sort of futuristic war. It's pretty strong," says the producer. "Chad St. John wrote the script and we've got Francis Lawrence involved in developing it with us. It's not a 'go' movie yet but I'm feeling good about it."

Release date: TBA

COWBOYS & ALIENS

Heat Vision reports Olivia Wilde of "House" and "Tron Legacy" will join Daniel Craig in the film. According to the article, "Wilde will play a character named Ella who joins up with mysterious gunslinger in an unlikely uprising against an alien invasion.

Release date: 2011

DUNE

When you decided to take on "Dune," expect to be talking about it constantly. Empire reports the film's current shepherd, Pierre Morel, was asked about the action quotient in the project. "[It's] not about action, it's not the point," the director responded. This is technically true. Scenes in the novel then to take place after the action, reflecting back on raids and battles. There is a great temptation to film some of that unseen material, however. "I do think that there's a lot of scenes that are not described in the books, just mentioned," Morel continued. "Like the bad guys attacking something, and it might make sense to include those in the movie. That would maybe call for some action scenes, yes."

Release date: TBA

ASTERIX CHEZ LES BRETONS

Variety reports "Fidelite Films' Marc Missonnier and Olivier Delbosc will produce 'Asterix Chez les Bretons' (Asterix in Britain), the fourth installment in Gaul's blockbusting live-action movie franchise." While the film series has never had a wide release in the States, if at all, it has quite a history in France. According to the article, the previous installment "cost Euros 78 million ($108 million) and grossed less than $60 million at the Gallic box office in 2008."

Release date: TBA

SMALLVILLE

Time for another clip from "Absolute Justice." This time, Clark is looking for Wesley Dodds.

PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME

IGN UK had a chance to chat with Ben Kingsley about the film. "Mike Newell, being the lovely director he is, turned a plot-driven piece into a character-driven piece. It was very, very appealing to me and then it becomes, honestly, like any other film that one is enjoying making. You didn't feel the crushing weight of franchise," says Kingsley. Asked if he did his own stunts, the actor responded, "I do a lot of my own stunts. I do a lot of my own fights. I had a wonderful climbing sequence and I did a lot of that myself. Not too much of my horse-riding -- I'm nervous of horses -- but a lot of the other stuff I did, yeah. I had a great fight trainer."

Release date: May 28th, 2010

CLASH OF THE TITANS

IGN has the international trailer for the film. It's slightly different from the earlier version, focusing more on Perseus initially, but then breaks into Olympian action. It also gives me an excuse to mention the Kraken again.

Starring Sam Worthington, release date: April 2nd, 2010

OSCAR MORNING

The Academy Award nominations were announced earlier this morning. Here's the full list at the Academy's own Oscar.com. Of note is the inclusion of "District 9" and "Up" in the Best Picture Category. "Sherlock Holmes" nabbed nominations for Art Direction and Original Score. Despite widening the field for Best Picture, the list as a whole is still fairly straightforward. In any other year, "Avatar" would be the anomaly. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, just plain weird, or spot Mysterio up to his usual hi-jinks, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of Oscar night speeches.
