THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA

Thanks to press for "The Wolfman," we have a bevy of information on the film from director Joe Johnston. Latino Review and various other sites reported on a conference call in which Johnson mentioned the man who will play Cap will be an American, a complete unknown, and he will be cast by March 1st. "I hope it'll be somebody that we discover and has never been, has probably been in something, but you won't know who he is. You won't recognize him. And we'll surround him with more prominent names. That's who we're looking for. Will we find him? I don't know. It's tough," says Johnston. The director also spoke with The Los Angeles Times, explaining how Cap gets his costume and what it means in the story. "The costume is a flag, but the way we're getting around that is we have Steve Rogers forced into the USO circuit. After he's made into this super-soldier, they decide they can't send him into combat and risk him getting killed. He's the only one and they can't make more. So they say, 'You're going to be in this USO show' and they give him a flag suit. He can't wait to get out of it," he explained. Rodgers will come to find value in the costume, according to Johnston. The director told CHUD a six member Invaders team will "be in the entire second half" of the film. Finally, HitFix confirmed with Johnston that the Red Skull will be in the picture. "We will see the Captain America villain, the main villain, the Red Skull," said the director. I have to admit this is the Marvel movie I'm looking forward to the most. I love "The Rocketeer" and always hope for a period set comic book movie to be as good as Johnston's earlier work. To have him coming to "Captain America" as a mostly WWII period picture just seems like a winning combination of elements.

Release date: July 22nd, 2011

JONAH HEX

SpoilerTV has a galler of pictures from the reshoots on the film. It seems since the film finished production, it received a status upgrade from the studio, with more money being thrown at it. Some of you may be excited to know many of the shots feature Megan Fox. Others may be more interested to know some of them feature Josh Brolin in full Jonah Hex make-up.

Release date: June 8th, 2010

COWBOYS & ALIENS

The film finally has a release date. According to Deadline Hollywood, the Jon Favreau-directed summer extravaganza will be in theaters July 29th, 2011

Starring Daniel Craig Release date: July 29th, 2011

DAREDEVIL BEGINS?

The Los Angeles Times reports Fox and New Regency will attempt a reboot of the Daredevil franchise following on the initial "Daredevil" and "Elektra" sequence of films. According the LA Times, writer David Scarpa has been hired to reshape the concept for film. Scarpa wrote the recent remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still."

Release date: TBA

CLASH OF THE TITANS

Thanks to UGO, I get to say -- through a poster -- "RELEASE THE KRAKEN!"

Starring Sam Worthington, release date: April 2nd, 2010

PLANET OF THE APES BEGINS

New York Magazine's Vulture reports Fox is having trouble finding a director for its "Apes" reboot/remake of "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes." They have been following this story for sometime and according to the most recent article, "[Peter] Chernin and Fox are so intent on making this movie that they’re progressing right down to the next level of meat-and-potatoes action directors: The tightly controlled script, called 'Caesar', has now been circulated to Albert and Allen Hughes ('The Book of Eli'); Pierre Morel ('Taken'); James McTeigue ('Ninja Assassin'); Dennis Illiadis ('The Last House on the Left'), and Scott Stewart ('Legion')." While the project is currently called "Caeser" -- the name of the main character from "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" -- I fully expect the title to be changed to something like "Origin of the Planet of the Apes" if the project ever gets a head of steam.

Release date: TBA

THE THING (BEGINS)

Heat Vision reports Mary Elizabeth Winstead has signed on to star in the third version of "The Thing." I consider this a big reason to see the film. Oh, also, Joel Edgerton has also been cast. According to the article, "Winstead will play a Ph.D. candidate who joins a Norwegian research team in Antarctica after it discovers an alien ship in the ice. When a trapped organism is freed and begins a series of attacks, she is forced to team with a blue-collar mercenary helicopter pilot (Edgerton) to stop the rampage." The film is still considered a prequel to "John Carpenter's The Thing," so I fully expect their characters' chances of survival to be somewhat slim.

Release date: 2011

GHOSTBUSTER 3

Bill Murray confirms to the Mail on Sunday the rumor of his role in the third film. "I said to them, 'I'll do it if you kill me off in the first reel.' So now they are going to have me as a ghost in the film," said the actor.

Release date: TBA

BATMAN 3

It's been a while since we've taken the temperature on the third "Batman Begins" film. For once, I don't have to write my "there is no script" boilerplate because, according to Deadline Hollywood, David Goyer may be working on it right this minute. In an item about Goyer leaving ABC's "Flash Forward," Deadline's Nikki Finke writes, "Goyer's feature career is really heating up, since he co-wrote 'Batman Begins,' and penned the story for 'The Dark Knight,' and is now writing the third Batman installment with Chris Nolan's brother Jonah."

Release date: TBA
