AKIRA

As we reported yesterday here at CBR, the Hughes Brothers are in talks to director the Western apatation of Katsuhiro Otomo's "Akira." According to first-on-the-scene Deadline Hollywood, "The story takes place in the rebuilt New Manhattan where a leader of a biker gang saves his friend from a medical experiment." This project has been brewing for sometime. "Book of Eli" writer Gary Whitta has written a draft of the script that the Hughes Brothers will presumable work from. I've already seen people taking pause at this news or invoking the fear of American Godzilla, but I'm willing to give it a chance because "Book of Eli" was of surprising quality from the same people steering this project.

Release date: TBA

BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD

According to a tB&tB fan page on Facebook, "New episodes previously announced for February have been postponed indefinitely, including this week. We'll keep you updated when Cartoon Network announces the new schedule." The page is not official or affiliated with Warner Brothers and calls have made to get a more definitive word. This could be the work of Mysterio or a simple change in the show's long term planning. Once we know, we'll pass it on.

Release date: TBA

SPIDER-MAN BEGINS?

Yesterday at CBR, we reported Sony has announced the release date for the "Spider-Man" reboot. The reboot film will also be in 3D. As someone who finds it hard to maintain the 3D illusion, this isn't exactly the most exciting news. As long as I can easily get into a 2D screening, though, I'll be happy enough to see if the re-invented "Spider-Man" film series works.

Directed by Marc Webb, release date: July 3rd, 2012

ROBOCOP (BEGINS)

Writer David Self tells Shock Till You Drop that both he and director Darren Aronofsky are still attatched to the project. "He's making another movie right now ('Black Swan'), but we're waiting for MGM, to sort things out since they’re a large corporation and it's a situation where we have to be practical. We're waiting to continue with them, we hope that that happens soon and we can get back to it soon," said Self. He goes on to say, "It's definitely not a sequel. It's an origin story, it's an origin to the original 'Robocop'. So, it's basically a 'reboot." With that, I'm adding a "Begins" tag to this item.

Release date: TBA

THOR

KFDA in New Mexico (via Superhero Hype) reports part of the film will be shot in Santa Fe, New Mexico. "The studio is expected to hire more than 200 New Mexico residents for the cast and crew," the report goes onto say. I'm hard pressed to say what material will fit with the beautiful, but often difficult New Mexico vistas, but it's nice to see that part of the country get more exposure on film.

Starring Chris Hemsworth, release date: May 6th, 2011

DUNE

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project has a new writer in the form of Chase Palmer. Palmer is a writer/director. His previous credits include "Shock & Awe" and the in-production "Number 13."

Release date: TBA

THE WALKING DEAD

As we reported yesterday on CBR, the pilot will being shooting in May in Atlanta, Georgia. While this is still just a pilot and AMC has made no episode commitments, it's a big show of support to mount the pilot this quickly. Casting announcements are to follow.

Release date: TBA

NO ORDINARY FAMILY

Our old friend got his hands on the script of ABC's pilot for "No Orindary Family," a superhero themed comedic drama staring "The Shield's" Michael Chiklis. I know he was the Thing in "The Fantasic Four" flicks, but I prefer to think of Vic Mackey. Anyway, following our old friend's link does lead to spoiler country, even if they are mild. What does our friend think of it overall? "It's a much more interesting exploration of poossibilities of superfiction than 'The Cape.' And leagues ahead of the repetitive, moralising and self-defeative melodramatic nature of 'Heroes,'" says our friend.

Release date: TBA

MASS EFFECT WITHDRAWAL DAY 2

With the gulf between the Olympic Opening Ceremonies and finishing 'Mass Effect 2,' I have to fill my off-time with something, so I returned to the warm, nerdy confines of "The Lord of the Rings Online." I got one of their lifetime memberships awhile back because I'm just that much of a Tolkien nerd. I started up a new character called Everblast and began learning the game again. Maybe I'll mention some of his adventures from time to time. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, just plain weird, or spot Mysterio up to his usual hi-jinks, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of a MMO support group.
