Official Press Release

Midtown Comics in New York City will present Ben Templesmith and Ben McCool signing their new comic book, Choker. #1, from Image Comics.

CHOKER is a six-issue comic book mini-series by writer Ben McCool and artist Ben Templesmith. A deliciously skewed tale of hardboiled noir, it tells the story of Johnny Jackson, a deadbeat private detective working the debauched streets of Shotgun City. Once thought of as one of the police departmentís most promising young hotshots, Johnnyís life has since taken a sharp nosedive, transforming him into a hate-filled and bitter slob. At least, thatís how itís been until now. Johnnyís unexpectedly been offered a job back on the force, but he must put a twisted drug dealer selling a very exclusive product behind bars first. And as is typical in Shotgun City, nothing is quite as it seems"

BEN TEMPLESMITH is a New York Times best-selling artist and writer, and this event marks his second appearance at Midtown. Some of his most notable works include 30 Days of Night (which spawned a major motion picture), Fell, and Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse. Ben also owns the funkiest collection of suits known to man.

BEN McCOOL is a British writer living in New York City, and Choker is his debut creator-owned comic book work. He is also writing a Superman story for DC Comics, and has a bunch of other (unannounced) stuff out later in 2010. Though his wardrobe is relatively tame compared to Mr. Templesmithís, he does own a wig so spectacular even Phil Spector would be jealous.

MIDTOWN COMICS opened its first store in 1997, and is now the industryís leading retailer of comic books, graphic novels and Manga, with its online store as well as two landmark NYC locations†in Times Square and Grand†Central.
