The wait to see how Steve Rogers takes to the silver screen is coming closer and closer to an end. After last week's widely-publicized rumor that Marvel Studios had offered actor Chris Evans the part of Captain America, the Hollywood Reporter is back this week with word that the offer has been accepted and Evans will be playing the hero in "The First Avenger: Captain America" come July of 2011.
According to the report, the offer has been accepted in handshake only and that the final details of Evans contract are still being worked out by Marvel and the actors agency CAA, neither of whom would comment on the record. However, while many other reports of actors up for the part were batted around the Hollywood blogosphere with writers shooting down rumors and offering their own theories, the original Evans rumor on THR was met with very little resistance. Whether that's a sign that the deal is going down this week for sure will only be proven when the studio opts to make an official announcement.
For now, sound off in the CBR Forums on how you think Evans – who's already played a triple bill of comic characters from Fantastic Four member Johnny Storm to Loser Jensen to Scott Pilgrim evil ex Lucas Lee – could handle the role. And look back to CBR in the days ahead for word on "The First Avenger: Captain America" as it becomes official.
