X-MEN ORIGINS: FIRST CLASS

Deadline reports Bryan Singer will produce the film, but pass directing duties to another person. "He is leaving because Fox liked the script that Jamie Moss wrote from Singer's treatment so much that the studio wants the film right away, envisioning it as the first leg of a trilogy. The hope is to have it ready for 2011 release," writes Deadline.

Release date: 2011

THE LOSERS

A couple of set interviews sprang up over the weekend. Collider talked with Columbus Short, who plays Pooch in the film. "For the most part, from the beginning to the end it's pretty much the Losers together, so there's a lot of scenes of us just together having our natural banter, which plays wonderfully and it's been great shooting with these guys because we had so much time to train and just get a natural chemistry and the camaraderie that I think rings true on camera," says Short. Superhero Hype spoke with Óscar Jaenada, the film version of Cougar. "You know when you are doing an action movie, all the things are focused on the action, you know? When you are doing more European cinema, I don't know how to say, but [it's] more about the words or the silence. The beats. It's everything, more powerful. It's everything, more quiet. It's slower. Where now it's everything happens fast," says the actor about making an American action picture.

Starring Jeffey Dean Morgan, release date: April 23rd, 2010

SHOGUN WARRIORS

This item will be of particular interest to my writing partner. Harry Knowles at Ain't It Cool News reports plans are afoot for a feature length film based on the Japanese "Gaiking" character, better known in the states as "Shogun Warriors." The US version brought together Gaiking with Great Mazinger and other giant robot/mobile suit characters in the late 70s. I have dim memories of playing with a handy-me down Shogun Warrior. I can't recall the name, but I remember it being red and blue. Anyway, Knowles goes on at length about the production, but has few direct quotes from the principle people involved as he lost his recording of the interview. He does, however, have a teaser of the Gaiking robot.

Release date: TBA

SMALLVILLE

As our pals at Robot 6 reported, there is some new litigation involving the series as the shows original producers are claiming the show has been sold to stations and forgien markets below value.

TO WONDERCON OR NOT TO WONDERCON

So, WonderCon is coming and I'll know in a few days if I'm going. It's been awhile since I was in San Francisco, so beyond hitting up the convention, I also have people to visit with. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of Interstate 5.
