Official Press Release

[Cursed]It takes more than one writer to create a haunting new series about Egyptian

curses, bizarre murders, mystical amulets and Queen Cleopatra in the modern

day. Thankfully, there are two: Fiona Avery and Tippi Blevins, who co-write a

new four-part story arc called Cursed, which ships monthly starting in October

from Top Cow Productions. Romano Molenarr, best known for his work on the Lady

Death series, provides the artwork. Each issue will feature a guest artist

providing an alternate cover, with such luminaries as Joe Benitez, Chris

Bachalo and Joseph Michael Linsner.

Cursed tells the story of Shan Beaumont, a woman with a secret. She is cursed

with the ability to see visions of horrific events and she uses that ability to

help her write stories as a journalist. But this curse, placed on her family in

the time of Cleopatra, drives people insane. Her own father lies in a

psychiatric ward, his mind delving deeper and deeper towards total madness.

Shan is asked to help solve a series of gruesome murders while Queen Cleopatra

appears in the modern day to help figure out the mystery as well.

A preview of this comic, as well as cover images from the series, are available

online at www.topcow.com/cursed along with other interviews from the co-writers.

[Cursed]Co-writer Fiona Avery actually spent some time as an archaeologist before her

writing career took off, but she definitely enjoys writing about this genre

now. "It's much more fun inventing the past with some poetic license." She got

the idea for Cursed's heroine, Shan Beaumont, from her time in the pyramids of

Egypt. "I kinda had this idea for a protagonist who [was cursed], like maybe a

Journalist or something." Tippi Blevins adds, "[this book] reworks some

Egyptian myths and sheds new light on some old ones. Ever wondered what

*really* happened after Cleopatra was stung by the asp? You'll find out in

Tippi Blevins started writing stories and prose which have appeared in dozens

of websites, magazines, and anthologies. Her science fiction story, "The Dog-

Faced Boy & the Amazing Winged Man" won the Speculations Readers Poll for short

fiction, and was on the Nebula Awards preliminary ballot. She is a frequent

contributor to the popular vampire fiction magazine, Dreams of Decadence.

Cursed marks her very first foray into the world of comic books.

Fiona Avery is best known for her work with J. Michael Stracynzski on TV series

like Babylon 5 and Crusade. She has also written comic book series such as No

Honor, Witchblade: Obakemono, and Rising Stars: Bright. Her No Honor comic book

was recently optioned by Valhalla Pictures and sold to Showtime as a TV Pilot

which Fiona will be writing-producing this year.
