NOTE: MYSTERIO STRIKES

As this is April 1st, the Comic Reel is on orange alert, Storm Watch, and any number of other attention grabbing monikers. Today is a day of extra vigilance as the truth could be easily obscured by the mists of conjecture and outright lies as pranks abound. And around any corner could be the dreaded Rick Roll

THE AVENGERS

Joss Whedon to direct the the film? IESB writes, "The same sources that spilled the beans to IESB about Spider-Man 4 being put on an indefinite hold back in December, have revealed that another leading contender on that short list to direct 'The Avengers' film is none other than Joss Whedon." The site says in bold letters that this is not an April Fool's Joke. They published a few fake articles before this was posted, so it makes their claim a little more misty.

Release date: May 4th, 2012

BUCK ROGERS (BEGINS)

Paul W.S. Anderson tells MTV News a little bit of his plans for the film. "It's not going to be Lycra bodysuits," says the director. "Obviously we're going to be respectful of the past Buck Rogers [incarnations], but this is something very much about the future, reinventing the character. [Twiki] was an addition to the serial and was heavily influenced obviously by 'Star Wars.'"

Release date: TBA

IRON MAN 2

Here's something that's not definitely not a hoax, Jon Favreau holding the suitcase armor:

Yahoo! has a couple of more images, including Whiplash's bird and Iron Man checking himself out.

Starring Robert Downey Jr., release date: May 7th, 2010

KICK-ASS

Is Aaron Johnson running around Berlin in full Kick-Ass gear?

A new inscrutable marketing strategy or has one actor gone off the deep-end?

Starring Nicholas Cage, release date: April 16th, 2010

THE TERMINATOR (BEGINS)

According to IESB, Robert Rodriguez has signed on to reboot the franchise for Twentieth Century Fox. "Rodriguez has already banged out a treatment for a full-on reboot and is currently working with long-time collaborators KNB on designs," writes the site.

Release date: TBA

RED

It seems all the cameras are in New Orleans. Comic Book Movie credits local magazine Scene with this shot from the set:

Release date: October 22nd, 2010

THE SPIRIT (BEGINS)

A friend tells us Denny Colt is set to return to movie screens. "The plan is get back to the characters origins," says our old friend the Studio Insider.

Release date: TBA

CONAN

IESB translated the text from this French website in which Conan expert Patrice Louinet expresses some faith in the casting. "These pics were enough to convince me a bit more that Momoa is an excellent Conan, as far as his looks is concerned. He is very close to the character as described by Howard: he is hairy, dark, scarred and muscular yet lithe, devoid of the body-builder physique syndrome."

Release date: 2011

SMALLVILLE

Kryptonsite reports big plans are afoot for the show's 200th episode next season. "Our sources have revealed that although season-long contracts have been offered to several of the show's players for next year, at least one contract will be only for the season's first four episodes. This will take them through to episode #200, when... a character will die, much like the series' 100th. This death is said to "greatly affect Clark" as he begins on his journey next year. By the end of Episode #200, Smallville will have undergone a cast overhaul that will ultimately end with the departures of three key cast members." The site also has a proposed episode title list for the upcoming season.

New episode: April 2nd, 2010

ONE DAY TO WONDERCON

It occurs to me I'll be periously close to the San Francisco Apple Store during the launch of the new iPad. Will I be swept up in the mania and buy a device I don't need? Will I successfully make it to my panel assigments? Will I get to see the first episode of the new "Doctor Who?" Time will tell; it always does. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of hype.
