SPIDER-MAN (BEGINS)

Does Mysterio strike again as the Logan Lerman rumor resurfaces? "A source close to the production tells HitFix Lerman is 'almost 100% locked' but not in contract negotiations for the role yet," writes HitFix's Drew McWeeny. Almost as soon as that was posted (well, more like a day) Deadline had a rebuttal from Sony insiders claiming "that the young actor is not getting the role. In fact, these sources were very definitive in denying the story, and were sure that Lerman was 100% not going to be Spidey." Insiders and sources can often be the work of mists and illusion, but notice how on "Spider-Man" everything that reeks of Mysterio turns out to be true. Sony refuted the collapse of "Spider-Man 4" and the reboot rumor. Time will tell; it always does.

Release date: May 28th, 2012

GREEN LANTERN

Superhero Hype has learned actor Jon Tenney has been cast as Martin Jordan -- Hal's father -- in the film. "It's under lockdown, that script. It's very, very secretive. They're only releasing sections of it, so they're keeping everybody in the dark," says the actor. Meanwhile, Slashfilm reports you will never see a set photo of Ryan Reynolds in the GL costume for a curious, interesting, and somewhat terrifying reason. "The suit that Ryan wears on set is a grey tracking motion/performance capture suit with led lights. I've heard that Ryan Reynolds has been joking on set that Warner Bros is going to make him into a Na'vi when the final cut is released. His joke, not mine. The Green Lantern suit you will see in the final film will be almost entirely created using computers," writes Slashfilm's Peter Sciretta.

Starring Ryan Reynolds, release date: June 17th, 2011

THE WALKING DEAD

Bloody Disgusting hopes to improve their rumor batting average while reporting former Superman Brandon Routh might be joining the cast of the series. "We failed you once, hopefully we've got this one locked down," they write. Previously, the site reported Jonny Lee Miller was a lock for the lead part in the series. The role went to Andrew Lincoln in stead.

Airdate: October

COWBOYS & ALIENS

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports, "'Cowboys and Aliens' is coming to New Mexico this June, and is searching for men with facial hair, mutton chops, mustaches and long goatees. The film, directed by Jon Favreau from 'Iron Man' and produced by Dreamworks, also wants Native American riders, children and women." There's also a couple of "Thor" related items in that link that, to me, require local knowledge to understand.

Starring Daniel Craig, release date: July 29th, 2011

THOR

While we're talking about "Thor," Idris Elba talked a little bit about Heimdall to Latino Review, "I looked at the comic books actually because Heimdall, he's a very central character and I wanted to reflect him as he is in the comic books." He also touches on the issue of race as in both "Thor" and "The Losers" he's been cast in parts traditionally depicted as white. Meanwhile, Collider rounds up some evidence and fan analysis leading to the conclusion that the film may be shot in 3D.

Starring Chris Hemsworth, release date: May 6th, 2011

PALOMAR

Gilbert Hernandez tells MTV Tr3s when asked about a "Love and Rockets" film or series, "That's something I'd like to see, but I haven't met anyone who is capable of translating my characters to film. There is interest in a Palomar film, but I can't discuss anything about it yet."

Release date: TBA

TURF

According to the Guardian, Matthew Vaughn may direct a film based on Jonathan Ross's comic. "Set in 1920s prohibition-era New York, it's a high-velocity romp involving gangsters, vampires and aliens," writes the Guardian

Release date: TBA

THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA

Chris Evans jokes to Access Hollywood that his casting is "Gonna be the worst thing that ever happened to Marvel." It'll be interesting to see if he ever starts giving straight answers in regards to the film. For the moment, I'm just glad he's providing the jokes so I don't have to.

Release date: July 22nd, 2011

NO REST FOR THE WICKED

After a fine birthday weekend, it's back to work for me. I've got a couple of reviews to write, a press conference to report and an assignment that has me taking the train out to Hollywood today. Nice to have all that work actually as it might get me out of the sleepless groove I've been in. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of deadlines.
