X-MEN ORIGINS: FIRST CLASS
On Friday afternoon, various sites reported "Kick-Ass" director Matthew Vaughn was the lead candidate to take Bryan Singer's place as director of the "First Class" film Fox is fast tracking. By later in the day, Deadline was reporting Vaughn has passed and offered a list of other potentials including Timur Bekmambetov, Louis Leterrier, David Slade, Daniel Espinoza and Carl Erick Rinsch. According to Deadline's Mike Felming, "A decision will be made next week on the director with an eye toward a late summer or early fall start."
Release date: TBA
In case you missed it, our pals at Spinoff Online reported Friday that "Batman 3" has recieved its release date. Warner Bros intends to open the film -- still without a proper title -- on July 20th 2012. Mark your calenders now. Of course, my standard boilerplate for rumors still stands until we see a trailer. Don't believe any casting at this point.
Release date: July 20th, 2012
THE WALKING DEAD
Entertainment Weekly reports actress Sarah Wayne Callies has been cast as Lori Grimes. While I have the first compendium, I still have not begun reading it. That will begin soon. I promise.
THE FIRST AVENGER: CAPTAIN AMERICA
According to UGO, Tommy Lee Jones may be joining the film. "So who would he playing? That we're not sure about, but Jones has the gruff, stone cold look of a military man, which makes perfect sense in "Captain America's" WWII-era storyline. I'm sure there's a certain secret super soldier program that's looking for a leader..." they write. Meanwhile, CHUD has an interesting rumor about the fate of Bucky. It is something of a spoiler, despite the fact the URL spoilers the article contents.
Starring Chris Evans, release date: July 22nd, 2011
Comic Book Movie reports on a rumor about the production moving to Vancouver. According to CBM's Pietro Filliponi, "before production commenced on 'Green Lantern' there were several areas the studio was considering for use. The first being Australia, which fell through because of 'the current global economic situation, including fluctuations in currency evaluation and overall costs', the second being Pinewood Toronto Studios in Canada." The production eventually settled in New Orleans, but a number of recent Twitter posts suggest the film may end up in Toronto anyway. Both post are from people with tenuous connections to the production, so it could just be the old scuttle recirculating through the room.
Starring Ryan Reynolds, release date: June 17th, 2011
Heat Vision got its hands on a spiffy new banner for the film:
Starring Jeff Bridges, release date: December 17th, 2010
IRON MAN 2
As I reported here at CBR last night, the film has already crossed the $100 Million mark overseas. The film opened early due to the upcoming World Cup. Meanwhile, comicus.it talks previsualization with "Iron Man 2" effects man Albert Cheng. Previsualization is a quick and rough form of animation used by computer effects designers to give the director a look at the compostion, speed, and look of an effects shot without the costly process of fully rendering the material. "We were prevising work throughout principle photography and into postproduction. When the vfx plates came back to us, we spent our time in post-vis turning the raw plates into scenes that the editors could work with. It was a tremendously collaborative and re-warding process," he says.
Starring Robert Downey Jr., release date: May 7th, 2010
G.I. JOE 2
Producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura tells MTV News he would like to have the sequel ready for a 2012 release, but the script is not in yet. "We're not that far. I think it'll be pretty soon. It'll need a lot of work. They all do. I've had an occasion to read some of their pages, so I know the quality is there and the sense of tone is there. Paramount is very excited about us getting it going. No dates have been set. In our heads we think 2012 -- that summer," says the producer.

A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET
In case you missed it, my review of the film is up at Spinoff Online. On the whole, I found the remake lacking as it relied to much on easy startling scares and took away most of the strength of the main character. I admit audiences like to be startled and the film doing well at the box office proves that ... but I don't know if that will lead to the longevity the original series had.
Release date: out now.
BACK TO THE WORKWEEK
After a great weekend building IKEA furniture (for serious, it was trouble-free construction), it's back to constant spin of the Reel. This being "Iron Man 2's" release week, I'll try to round up as much as the press as possible -- provided it doesn't become an echo chamber. Of course, I'll always be looking into the distance for the next big release. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of the week ahead.
