HEROES

It's official: "Heroes" is toast. That said, Deadline reports plans may be afoot to give the show some closure. "NBC sources now tell me that the network is 'working on a way to wrap up the show. That will be determined after the upfront.' Other insiders explain to me that NBC will soon commit to that 2-hour or 4-hour special event in midseason to reward Heroes fans," writes Deadline's Nikki Finke.

Airdate: Never?

COWBOYS & ALIENS

Deadline also reports actors Paul Dano, Keith Carradine, and Clancy Brown have joined the cast. This is shaping up to be another actor extravaganza and since that was one of "Iron Man 2's" strengths, this will probably turn out to be a pretty fun movie. Dano was Eli in "There Will Be Blood." Carradine played Wild Bill Hickock in several episodes of "Deadwood," and Brown is probably best known in comic circles as the voice of Lex Luthor, but also played the Kurgan in "Highlander."

Starring Daniel Craig, release date: July 29th, 2011

SPIDER-MAN (BEGINS)

According to Heat Vision, Alvin Sargent, who has worked on all of the previous "Spider-Man" films, is doing a "production polish" before the film begins shooting later this year. "The acclaimed writer of hefty dramas like 1980s 'Ordinary People' and 1973’s 'Paper Moon' has become the studio’s go-to guy for punching up weighty scenes. The new 'Spider-Man' is rumored to be more emotionally anchored and realistic than the previous movies," they write.

Release date: May 28th, 2012

THE DARK PEARL

Variety confirms earlier speculation that Mark Hamill would direct an adaptation of his own comic book series. They write, "The $7 million live-action pic is adapted by Hamill and 'The Fighter's' Paul Tamasy and writing partner Eric Johnson. Hamill said the comic, which was published by Dark Horse Comics in 1996 and penned by Hamill and Johnson, is a 'dark, edgy thriller' that the company hopes will receive an R rating."

Release date: TBA

THE AVENGERS

Time to take Ed Norton's Hulk temperature again. The actor tells MTV News, "Well, if people want it all to come together, they've got to email Marvel and say, 'This is what I want.'" Burr. His temperature is frosty right now. Or, quite possibly, his relationship with Marvel.

Release date: May 4th, 2012

SUPERMAN (BEGINS)

While not directly related to the film, Deadline has a long, but interesting write-up of the latest developments in the ongoing litigation between Warner Bros and the Siegels. The latest round: Warners is suing Siegel attorney Marc Toberoff. He calls it "gutter tactics."

Release date: 2012?

20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA

Heat Vision reports director David Fincher has signed onto Disney's remake of the classic "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea." Maybe he'll cast a real Middle Eastern actor (and there are plenty of great ones) in the part of Captain Nemo this time. Disney's first version stared British actor James Mason as a version of Nemo that was quite racially neutral. Granted, early versions of the book has Nemo being of Polish origins. "While plotlines are being kept submerged, the Fincher/Burns take on the material is described as being in the vein of 'Star Wars' or 'The Empire Strikes Back.' It will aim to be visually dazzling," writes Heat Vision.

Release date: TBA

THE CAPE

As our pals over at Spinoff Online reported Friday, NBC has ordered up "The Cape" as a mideason replacement, complete with a few clips from the show:

Airdate: Midseason

HUMAN TARGET

Fox announced its Fall line-up (thanks to Deadline for posting it this morning) and the show has a new timeslot: Fridays at 8pm. This is traditionally known as "the deathslot." Hopefully, the show can stay afloat for awhile there.

Airs: Fridays this Fall

BACK IN LOS ANGELES

After losing my Friday to a sinus apocalypse, the rest of my trip up north was good fun. Saw friends, ate well, and recorded a podcast in which I talk about the movie, "Clue." I'll post to it once it's up. Coming this week, I'll have a review of a new documentary about the fan phenomenon surrounding "Troll 2." Yeah, I'm a cult movie nerd. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of the week ahead.
