X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

As we reported last night on CBR, actor Michael Fassbender is in early negotiations to play Magneto in the film. He is still being eyes by Sony for the unnamed villain in the "Spider-Man" reboot. Also, actor Benjamin Walker has been cast as a younger version of Beast. With the film moving quickly into production, except other key parts to be cast shortly.

Release date: June 3rd, 2011

JONAH HEX

Reviews are in and it ain't pretty. "It admittedly starts off great guns, but all too quickly it becomes apparent that the big-screen arrival of the supernatural Western DC Comics series 'Jonah Hex' is firing loud, empty blanks," writes The Hollywood Reporter. "Strangely enough, for a movie rushing to get to the finish line, 'Jonah Hex' doesn't have much energy.  The film never drags, but it rarely seems to be having as much fun as it should," writes Collider. "It's based on some DC Comics characters, which may explain the way the plot jumps around. We hear a lot about graphic novels, but this is more of a graphic anthology of strange occult ideas," writes Roger Ebert. UPDATE: Here's my review at CBR.

Release date: June 18th, 2010

SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD

Though it did leak early yesterday, director Edgar Wright asked a few sites to pull the international trailer until he could provide a better copy. Here it is, featuring 99% more Knives Chau:

Starring Michael Cera and Mary Elizabeth Winstead, release date: August 13th 2010

FABLES

Pajiba reports director David Yates may be developing a feature film version of the series. "We've been given fairly convincing evidence to definitively suggest that David Yates is, at least, in the mix and that a 'Fables' movie is, at the very least, in the early stages of development, so it's not a rumor that should be quickly dismissed." Of course, Pajiba's track record with DC properities isn't the best. Their "Starman" rumor turned to dust fairly quickly. "Fables" has been in development as an ABC television series for some time, but as Pajiba notes, "There's been little or no movement on the series since it was announced a year and a half ago."

Release date: TBA

WANTED 2

Kristen Stewart gasps and stammers as she evades MTV News's question about the "Wanted" sequel:

I might be wrong, but I think she actually smiles in this clip. Gasp, indeed.

Release date: TBA

COWBOYS & ALIENS

In the second half on his interview with Comic Book Movie, Plantinum Studios's Dan Forcey talks up the film, currently shooting under the direction of Jon Favreau. He admits the finished film will not be 100% faithful to the book. "Bob and Alex (the writers, along with Damon Lindelof) have taken a lot of liberties with the look at[sic] feel of the adaptation, but not to the level that a project like Wanted did. With a title like ours, though, there are going to be similarities no matter what you do with it. Cowboys and Native Americans still band together to fight invaders from space," says Forcey.

Starring Daniel Craig, release date: July 29th, 2011

GREEN LANTERN

Our old friend at Bleeding Cool has a nice look at a "Green Lantern" poster sent to him by a reader on the Warner Bros lot:

That familiar Hal close up strikes again ... although I notice in this picture, he has the modern version of the Power Ring. Hopefully, this will be its look in the final film.

Starring Ryan Reynolds, release date: June 17th, 2011

THE WALKING DEAD

IESB has a preview of its visit to the Atlanta set of the series. "Don't let the fact that it's on network (cable) television lead you to believe it will be toned down. This show will be bloody. Very bloody. As in... Greg Nicotero and his team are running around the set with blood literally dripping down their arms at all times bloody. Part of what attracted Darabont & Gale Ann Hurd to the deal with AMC was their promise to let them make "The Walking Dead" properly, and that means lots of suitable undead carnage," they write.

Airdate: October

DOCTOR WHO

Friday means a Doctor Who clip from doctorwhotv.co.uk for the season's penultimate episode, "The Pandorica Opens":

Airs: Saturday in the UK, July 3rd in the States

WEEKEND GETAWAY

Cue a Lucky Soul track and get me a White Russian, it's the weekend! Besides a family barbecue on Sunday, I intend to do pretty much nothing. Nothing sounds good for change. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of over-relaxation.
