CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER

As we reported yesterday here at CBR, Tommy Lee Jones appearance in the film has been confirmed. He will play Colonel Chester Phillips. Jones had long been rumored in the part. A month or so ago, co-star Hayley Atwell casually mentioned meeting with him.

Starring Chris Evans, release date: July 22nd, 2011

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

We also reported that actor Alice Eve is in talks to play Emma Frost in the film. With a younger actress cast in the part, it is assumed "First Class" will sync up with "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," though it is clear the production is not shy about re-casting parts.

Release date: June 3rd, 2011

CONAN

Collider spoke with actor Stephen Lang at the Saturn Awards last week. The actor talked about his role in the film as Khalar Singh:

Release date: 2011

GREEN LANTERN

Pietro Filipponi at Comic Book Movie reports the film will be on display at Comic-Con in the form of an upstairs panel and a total media presence. "From what I heard several months ago, they will undoubtedly put on a brilliant display. Teaser posters, official production images and film footage are just some of the goodies fans will feast their own on in only a few short weeks. Fans of the Green Lantern mythology will be very happy to see a scene pulled straight from the comics pages; one that involves a certain dying alien bestowing a powerful weapon to his worthy successor," he writes.

Starring Ryan Reynolds, release date: June 17th, 2011

XERXES

Zack Snyder tells Collider he has looked at the graphic novel and is interested in directing it:

Release date: Fall 2011

SUPERMAN/BATMAN: APOCALYPSE

TV Guide (via Superhero Hype) reports actress Summer Glau will give voice to Supergirl in the direct-to-video feature. "Glau plays Superman's cousin Kara, a mysterious survivor of the doomed planet Krypton who shows up on Earth. Tim Daly and Kevin Conroy reprise their roles as Superman and Batman, respectively, from the characters' animated series in the '90s and a previous DC movie, last year's 'Superman/Batman: Public Enemies,'" they write.

Release date: September 28th, 2010

ALPHAS

Deadline reports SyFy is talking to actor David Strathairn to lead their new series about "a team of ordinary citizens possessing extraordinary and unusual mental skills who take the law into their own hands and uncover what the CIA, FBI and Pentagon have not been able or willing to solve." They described Stratharin's role as "the overseer/team leader/prescribing doctor and all around mother hen to the team: an eccentric, absent-minded professor at times, who is also a cunning and manipulative power-player willing to bend the rules in pursuit of his objectives."

Release date: TBA

THE WALKING DEAD

The official blog has an interview with mark-up artist Greg Nicotero. "We started talking about this project probably three or four years ago, when Frank [Darabont] was talking about wanting to do something different with zombies, and what we could do to make these guys look fresh and original. And from then on, it's just been like, Hey man! We get to create zombies!" he says of coming onboard the project

Airdate: October

BACK IN TIME

So when the "Back to the Future" DVD set came out a few years back, I passed on it. The features seemed lacking and the entire package without care. With the upcoming Blu-Ray release, that all changes. New documentaries! New interviews! And, it seems, there will be a glimpse of Eric Stoltz brief tenure as Marty McFly. Now that seems like proper treatment for a good set of movies. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of more Blu-Ray re-releases.
