Official Press Release
ORANGE, CA -- 17 September, 2003 -- Image Comics has announced that Diamond has completely sold out of GEORGE R.R. MARTIN'S THE HEDGE KNIGHT #2 by George R.R. Martin, Ben Avery, Mike S. Miller and Mike Crowell. GEORGE R.R. MARTIN'S THE HEDGE KNIGHT #2 was available with two covers, by Mike S. Miller and Boris Vallejo & Julie Bell, and arrived in stores on September 10.
"GEORGE R.R. MARTIN'S THE HEDGE KNIGHT #1 sold out fast, but this issue went even quicker," stated Image Director of Marketing Eric Stephenson. "And I'll restate what I said a little over a week ago: This book is criminally under-ordered. Martin's appeal stretches far beyond the Direct Market, and the audience for THE HEDGE KNIGHT comics will just continue to build as this series unfolds."
"WOW! I expected the book to do great, but I didn't expect it to sell out two issues in a row," said Les Dabel, Vice President and New Business Director of Roaring Studios. "Most people are now on Ebay trying to get a hold of issue #1. George R.R. Martin has an incredibly faithful and loyal fanbase -- anyone who picks up one of his books will want to read everything else he has ever written."
"Retailers who know about George R.R. Martin and those who took a chance on THE HEDGE KNIGHT are making out, selling anywhere from 50 to 150 issues per store in one week," added Ernst Dabel, Editor-in-Chief and President of Roaring Studios.
To capitalize on the brisk sales of the first two issues, Image has also announced that HEDGE KNIGHT #1-2 will be compiled as a 48-page collected edition featuring the Brothers Hildebrandt cover from #1.
Image Comics VP-Publisher Jim Valentino stated that the decision to collect the two issues was a simple one: "This is a book we over-shipped and over-printed, and it still sold out within a week of hitting the stands. Based on reports we've been getting about the book's success, we want to ensure that readers caught empty-ended can catch up on this amazing story right away."
GEORGE R.R. MARTIN'S THE HEDGE KNIGHT #3, featuring covers by Miller and Tom Mandrake, is available for order now in the August issue of Previews.
