CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER

On the heels of Tommy Lee Jones's confirmed appearance in the film, Marvel let us know Dominic Cooper is confirmed for the film as Howard Stark. If nothing else, these two announcements illustrate just how long it can take from the time we learn an actor is "in talks" for a role until the complete contract is ironed out. Meanwhile, Pietro Filipponi at Comic Book Movie has learned the production will be descending on on the streets of Manchester in the UK. "Beginning next week the production will be in the direct vicinity of 57 Hilton Street. Manchester M1 2EJ. No word yet on how long this shoot will take to complete, so if you are in the area and want to catch a glimpse you'd better keep your eyes peeled," he writes. Manchester will be doubling for New York's Lower East Side circa the 1940s.

Starring Chris Evans, release date: July 22nd, 2011

ANTMAN

Edgar Wright tells Box Office Magazine (via Superhero Hype), "It's about the level of comedy that 'Iron Man' has. The idea is to make a high-concept genre film where it's within another genre. His suit and its power is the big gadget and it takes place in the real world. I just wanted to do something that was slightly different than the superhero origin film. I felt that between that and the various mad scientist, crazy doctor films that we've all seen, this would be a way into an origin that was slightly different. I'm not really a multi-tasker--I haven't done anything since Marvel liked our first draft." He mentions the second draft will happen once "Scott Pilgrim vs the World" is released.

Release date: TBA

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

Our old friend at Bleeding Cool hears the production is looking for "a ten-to-twelve-year old boy with blue eyes to play the role of a young Charles Xavier." I'd guess there will be a scene in which Xavier's telepathy first kicks in. One of those, "oh god, I can hear what everybody's thinking!" scenes where he gets overwhelmed and runs out of the classroom. What? It's not that hard to write an "Xavier Begins" scene.

Release date: June 3rd, 2011

GREEN LANTERN

A scooper sent Pietro Filipponi at Comic Book Movie another set photo that asks more questions than it solves:

"Supposedly, the secretive scene involves an altercation between the film's ring slinging protagonist Hal Jordan (portrayed by Ryan Reynolds) and one of the film's villains," writes Filipponi. With the crane mounted on a car, perhaps it's a bit of a chase?

Starring Ryan Reynolds, release date: June 17th, 2011

RISE OF THE APES

20th Century Fox's Twitter account posted the following yesterday: "This is cool: Gollum reteams with Weta. Andy Serkis to star as Caesar in 'Rise of the Apes,' portraying chimp who leads the simian revolt." Caesar was played by Roddy MacDowell in the original series films "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" and "Battle for the Planet of the Apes." In the first, he's angry and militaristic. In the second, he's fatherly and kind. I guess having kids will do that to you. Serkis is no stranger to damn, dirty apes as he also lent his talents to the mighty Kong in Peter Jackson's remake of "King Kong."

Release date: June 24th, 2011

TRON LEGACY

CHUD and various other sites report Comic-Con Banners are already up in San Diego, featuring images from the film. This one of Jeff Bridges is pretty cool:

I was such a work-minded zombie last year, I neglected to go Flynn's Arcade. Hopefully, the film will have a similar off-site event to enjoy.

Starring Jeff Bridges, release date: December 17th, 2010

THE WALKING DEAD

Creator Robert Kirkman tells USA Today it is interesting to see the early parts of the story again as it is made into a TV series. "[Rick's] grown and changed over time, and it's fun to go back and see that. I was telling my manager that I want to walk around on set and look at all the actors and just be like, 'Oh yeah, I've killed you and I've killed you and you don't last very long in the book. Sorry!' I am seeing a lot of characters who aren't in the book anymore, and I think that's kind of cool," he says.

Airdate: October

RED DEAD REUNION

After taking a week or so off from the game entirely, I've reunited Marston with his family and find the game did not end. Now, I have to fix the abandoned homestead Marston was forced to leave. Now I know why the game taught me to herd cattle early on. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of mundane task minigames.
