SPIDER-MAN (BEGINS)

Our story begins with Blue Sky Disney revealing Josh Hutcherson claiming the webshooters. "After several extensive test shoots were performed, Marc Webb and the top Sony $uits decided that Hutcherson was the right fit for the role and an offer was made and has been accepted," they write. They story was picked up by a few places and our old friend at Bleeding Cool notes Blue Sky Disney is "a site with solid previous results in reporting on the Mouse House. 'Spider-Man', however, is a Sony project, no matter that Marvel have now been swallowed up by Disney. This dents the site's source and, as a result, their report a little, I'd fear." He then points to an article on CHUD which mentions he has not been offered the role and that "Hutcherson is a favorite for the role of Cyclops in 'X-Men: First Class'." He could, of course, still get the part. Time will stells.

Release date: May 28th, 2012

BATMAN 3

Asked about the release date Warner Bros announced, Christopher Nolan tells The New York Times, "I wouldn't let them put out an impractical date. Put it that way. They know me well enough to know what my process is. I do one film at a time. It's one of my real inefficiencies. As I start to free up on this film, I'll be thinking about what to do next. I'm also very fortunate I have a brother [Jonathan Nolan] I work with. He's an incredible asset and has been for many years." According to Nolan, his brother has been working hard on the script and has a version of it completed.

Release date: July 20th, 2012

UNBREAKABLE 2

M. Knight Shyamalan tells MTV News he still does not have the right story to follow up on the original film. What is the right story, you ask? The writer/director tries to answer that in this video:

Release date: TBA

TRON LEGACY

Already looking forward to Long Beach Comic-Con, the organizers announced Tron actor Bruce Boxleitner will be the feature guest at the convention in October. With the film only six weeks away from release at that point, I imagine the presence at the convention will be quite impressive.

Starring Jeff Bridges, release date: December 17th, 2010

SUPERMAN/BATMAN: APOCALYPSE

Superhero Hype has the full press release for the direct-to-video release. It mentions actor Andre Braugher is the voice of Darkseid(!) and offers a run down on extra features. While both version will have featurettes focusing on the New Gods, the Blu-Ray addition will have additional "Featurette Pods" focusing on Orion and Mister Miracle.

Release date: September 28th, 2010

SMALLVILLE

According to IGN, John Schneider will reprise his role as Jonathan Kent when the show returns in the fall. "Obviously Jonathan's return raises some questions, given that the character died back in Season 5. I can't reveal yet the how and why of Jonathan's appearance, but I can tell you that we'll see him in the season premiere, entitled 'Lazarus.' In addition, Schneider is expected to appear in at least one other episode as the season continues," writes IGN's Eric Goldman.

YEAR ONE

A year ago today I took over the Reel with items about 'Thor', 'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles', 'Scott Pilgrim' and a few other items. I even had some "Iron Man 2" news. It's fun to see look back and see which items are still developing stories, like "Thor" and "Smallville." It's been a fun, hectic year and I'm glad I get to follow these projects as they develop toward release. A year ago, "Spider-Man 4" was meant to continue the story with Tobey Maguire and rumors had Cher playing Catwoman in "Batman 3." Of course, my favorite insane rumor of this last year was the report of Miley Cyrus auditioning for Batgirl in costume well before Warner Bros had a script. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya bracing for the future threat of the next year at the Comic Reel.
