FANTASTIC FOUR REBORN

Over the weekend, Pietro Filipponi at Comic Book Movie learned of several casting ideas for the team and the film's director. "I've learned that Joe Carnahan, David Yates and James McTeigue are among those on the short list to helm the film," he writes. Carnahan directed the recent "A-Team" movie. Yates delivered the most recent "Harry Potter" films and McTeigue is the Wachowskis' assistant director who also helmed "V for Vendetta" and "Ninja Assassin." As for the team, in addition to previously reported ideas as Alice Eve for Sue Storm and Adrian Brody for the Cursed Richards, Filipponi hears the voice of the Thing may get a boost from Bruce Willis. "Fox is very interested in pursuing Bruce Willis to provide the voice of their completely CG Thing; as well as stand in for few, brief scenes the character appears in human form during the opening credits," he writes. He does indicate it's not set in stone and could easily be a bit of dream casting. ScreenRant offers another possibility for Ben Grimm: "I'm also hearing now that Kiefer Sutherland is the other choice of interest for the studio at the moment."

CONAN

The Conan Movie Blog (via Comic Book Movie's Brent Sprecher), has the bare truth in a series of photos from the film showing Conan enjoying a drink. Sprecher has kindly made the following photo safe for work:

Meanwhile, Stephen Lang tells MTV News there will be magic in the film, despite the "low tech" aspect that he enjoys:

THE UNTAMED

Collider reports Stranger Comics' forthcoming "The Untamed" has already been optioned by producer Lloyd Levin, one of the men who brought "Watchmen" to the screen. The story follows "a man who makes a deal with the devil to be released from hell for seven days to reap vengeance on the seven souls who murdered him and his family." BOOM! Studios co-founder Andrew Cosby is set to direct.

Release date: TBA

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER

According to Comic Book Movie, the production is looking for "Oriental, Jewish and Italian men and women aged 16-100. In particular we are looking for older 'characterful' faces." Meanwhile, Stanley Tucci tells MTV News about his character and the look of the film:

Starring Chris Evans, release date: July 22nd, 2011

PRIEST

Cam Gigandet tells MTV News about his remarkable weapon in the film. I guess it's impossible to write that and have it not sound dirty.

RUNAWAYS

After Racebending became concerned and Asian-American character Nico Minoru in the film might get white-washed with a non-Asian actor in the part, Marvel responded to them with a statement. "To address your concern over casting for the role of Nico, as we do with all of our films, we intend to stay true to the legacy and story of the comic when casting these parts. Thus, our goal is to cast an Asian American actress as depicted in the comic series and the casting notice will be adjusted accordingly," wrote the studio. The casting sheet available to agents now lists the character as Asian-American. The team at Racebending went on to explain why that detail is important in the casting sheet. "When Racebending.com spoke with people working in the entertainment industry about the breakdown, they also confirmed that without the keywords 'Asian' or 'Asian American,' actors of Asian descent would face barriers in accessing the role. Including the keywords would mitigate systemic discriminatory factors prevalent in Hollywood," they wrote.

THE HOBBIT

I know I'm not covering the film until it's actually shooting, but this scoop concerns a former "Doctor Who" star. Remember awhile back when we heard Sylvester McCoy, the Seventh Doctor, might be up for Bilbo? Well, that turned out to be um ... "whooey," but Brendon Connelly at Bleeding Cool hears tell of the actor being up for another role: "This afternoon we've been told by a 100% trustworthy source close to the situation that McCoy is in line for the role of Radagast the Brown. For a bit of context, Radagast is a wizard who, in 'The Fellowship of the Ring', unwittingly lures his ally, Gandalf, into a trap set by Saruman." Connelly ponders if perhaps, we'll see the battle between the Wizards and Sauron (in his guise as "The Necromancer") in the southern part of Mirkwood forest. I always presumed a lot of that material (revealed to Frodo in "The Lord of the Rings," but unknown to Bilbo during "The Hobbit") would be part of the two-film cycle.

NO ORDINARY FAMILY

According to Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly, "Twilight's" Jackson Rathbone has joined the show as "Trent Stafford, a high school classmate of Kay Panabaker telepathic Daphne."

Airdate: Fall

DOCTOR WHO

Showrunner Steven Moffat tells The Guardian (via Blastr) series six will have a "mid-season finale" that will be "game-changing." He is also talking as though the thirteen episode order will work as series six and seven. Since a standard season of British television is six or seven episodes, it's not surprising to see the show making this switch.

SMALLVILLE

Thanks to Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly, we have this promo picture:

Nice of them to put that insert to remind us just what the main image is supposed to be referencing. I remember when the initial image was plastered all over town.
