SPIDER-MAN (BEGINS)

So, it's official, Emma Stone will be playing Gwen Stacy in the "Spider-Man" reboot and ... wait, Gwen Stacy? The first love of Peter's life? The blonde who fell from a great height? That Gwen Stacy? According to the press release we posted yesterday, "Stone has been tapped for the role of Gwen Stacy opposite Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker. While Stone is better known for red hair, Beaks over at Ain't It Cool asserts she is a natural blonde. It is funny to note how actresses better known for their red hair play Gwen. At least in Stone's case, all it takes is letting it grow out. So, I guess this means the loves of Peter Parker will be told in roughly chronological order this time?

Release date: May 28th, 2012

WOLVERINE 2

In case you missed it last night, we reported here at CBR that Darren Aronofsky has "begun talks" to direct the sequel. He does have a good working relationship with star Hugh Jackman and continues the tradition of off-beat directors for Logan's solo saga. As far as I know, the plot will still be based on that initial Claremont/Byrne story that launched a thousand spin-offs. Presumably, if Aronofsky takes on the project, he'll have to be comfortable with that storyline.

Release date: 2012?

SUPERMAN (BEGINS)

In Vulture's reporting of Aronofsky's possible "Wolverine" job, they note some possible story details for the "Superman" reboot. "Until last weekend, though, Aronofsky was far more interested in directing WB's original take on Superman — in which Clark Kent is a journalist traveling the world trying to decide if he should, in fact, even become Superman — than doing a sequel like 'Wolverine 2'," they write. They also suggest David Goyer's current draft is something of a mess. While I jokingly refer to the movie as "Superman Begins" and the "traveling journalist" is an interesting idea, can I make a suggestion? Tell the origin in an opening sequence and get on to chapter two. Superman, more than any other comic character, needs to get to the next story. Also, he needs to hit things. With his fists.

Release date: 2012?

GHOST RIDER 2: SPIRITS OF VENGEANCE

The cast for the sequel continues to get more and more interesting with Heat Vision reporting Idris Elba and Johnny Whitworth are both in negotiations to appear in the film. "Elba plays an alcoholic warrior monk tasked with finding Ghost Rider. Whitworth plays a criminal who is recruited by the devil ... and is later turned into a demonic creature," they write. Keep in mind the Devil will be played by Ciaran Hinds of "Rome" fame.

Release date: February 17th, 2012

GREEN LANTERN

Various sites are reporting the official movie site is live at GreenLantern.com. At the moment, it's just a placeholder with an eerie sound effect and a few glimpse at how the green energy will look.

Starring Ryan Reynolds, release date: June 17th, 2011

NO ORDINARY FAMILY

Here at CBR, we spoke with the show's co-creator Jon Harmon Feldman. "To me, superpowers are the ultimate wish fulfillment and the ultimate metaphor for kind of completing what you may perceive as deficiencies in yourself or in your family unit. So it started from there. It really started in that way," he says of the show's origins. "We don't want to create a family that fights crime together. These are things that, when the show ends, our feeling is that maybe we'll build to them doing that. But that's not what the show will be week-to-week. Week-to-week, it's about the family discovering how these powers work or don't work, each in their own worlds. The kids in high school, mom at work, dad as this budding crime fighter - it's really about discovery for us as much as possible."

THE WALKING DEAD

AMC has released another trailer for the series. It occurs to me we're on the final countdown as the show will premiere on Halloween night.

Premieres: Halloween

SMALLVILLE

Time for a "Smallville" casting update! Michael Ausiello at Entertainment Weekly reports Aquaman won't be alone when he returns to the show. "The lucky bride? Classic DC Comics undersea queen Mera! Actress Elena Satine—whose credits include guest stints on 'Cold Case' and 'Melrose Place 2.0'—will play the role of Mera," he writes. Meanwhile, Granny Goodness will appear on Earth in the form of Christine Willes according to Fancast. You might remember as George's boss on "Dead Like Me." She's about the best fit for dear old Granny short of putting Ed Asner in drag.

Airs: Fridays

STILL STORMY WEATHER

Despite a heatwave in the forecast, it's still cold and rainy today. I'm tempted to break out my sweater-vests in hopes that this is true start of Fall. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, ready for the future threat of becoming a weatherman.
