RUNAWAYS

According to Deadline, development of the film is slowing down. "Word in agency circles is that the project was flat-lining because it's similar in age demo to Kick-Ass, but insiders tell me that isn't true. Marvel simply has too much going on at the moment and will take its time on the live action adaptation," writes Deadline's Mike Fleming. He also mentions director Peter Sollett has been "invited" to make another film before "Runaways." I'm not entirely sure what that means.

Directed by Peter Sollett, release date: 2011?

GHOST RIDER 2: SPIRITS OF VENGEANCE

Romania new stie EVZ.ro (via Comic Book Movie and their use of the Google Translator), Nicholas Cage visited the Romania shooting locations and the production begins its shoot on November 1st. "['Ghost Rider 2'] is the first feature film made in our country to be shot in digital 3D next-generation technology without post, and will be based on visual special effects and pyrotechnics, all the first time in Romania," they write. "A team of 200 technicians and artists, mostly local will try to ensure the highest standard of quality shooting." Meanwhile, Idris Elba tells Entertainment Weekly, "I get criticized for taking roles in films like 'Ghost Rider 2', but if you look at my résumé, dude, I've mixed it up as much as I can. [Laughs] I love to play different roles. That's just the kind of actor I am." Elba is playing an "alcoholic warrior monk" in the film.

Release date: February 17th, 2012

THE HOBBIT

While the film's future in New Zealand is still uncertain, actor Sylvester McCoy (most famous for playing the Seventh Doctor on "Doctor Who") has confirmed he has been offered the role of Radagast the Brown. According to the Doctor Who News Page, "McCoy was speaking at the Armageddon Expo in Auckland yesterday, It is understood that McCoy had meetings in Wellington with Jackson and co-producer and co-writer Philippa Boyens last week, where he was offered the role, but that no contracts have yet been signed." With rumors circulating that Tenth Doctor David Tennant might play Thranduil, the King of the Wood-Elves, this could be a Doctor-filled film. Could we get Matt Smith to play Bard of Laketown? Or Tom Baker as the voice of Smaug? Or Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant to make cameos as the Sackville-Bagginses?

Release date: 2012

THE INCREDIBLES

Last week, we got word the film was coming to Blu-Ray. Now, here's a trailer announcing the release (via Collider and Pixar Talk):

Release date: Spring 2011

THE WALKING DEAD

With the premeire this Sunday, we're in for one more rash of interviews. Mania has an one with producer Gale Anne Hurd who discusses how the whole thing came together so quickly. "There was an earlier incarnation that Frank [Darabont] developed but this project for AMC completely written and cast started at a [restaraunt] in San Diego where Frank and I essentially tackled Robert's [Kirkman] graphic novel and said we have to do this. We have to do it now and in a next year in and half we'll be on the air. The amazing thing was we pitched the series in October of last year. Got a pilot and script order in November. AMC then read the pilot and ordered five more scripts. When they read the second script they ordered six episodes. Which is pretty untraditional; it was a great vote of confidence," she explained.

Meanwhile, Comicus.it spoke with Melissa Susan McBride, who plays Carol on the show. "For me, playing the role of Carol presented my first time acting as part of an ensemble as well as my first recurring role. That I even got to face this challenge is hugely exciting, but also pretty daunting!" she says. As for her character, she offers, "Her life before the apocalypse forced her to become a highly cautious person, and she's a genuine care-giver which can make her a valuable asset to this group of survivors, and feeling valued is something she's been needing for a long time. As an actor, playing such a complex character trying to survive this highly complicated world is thrilling!"

Premieres: Halloween

SMALLVILLE

While talking with the folks at Den of Geek, Helen Slater let it be known she's returning to the show. "Julian Sands and I are doing an episode. I wish it was more because it was so much fun doing it. But I guess they've got it all written. We're just doing one episode," she says. As it is Monday, we have the now traditional promo for the upcoming episode. This week: episode 10.6, "Harvest."

NIACIN FLUSH

Bad movie day went off pretty well, but we had a little niacin flush incident which meant an odd bought of itchiness as the vitamin worked its way around the body. I suppose it's the kind of creepy-crawliness that perfectly sets up Halloween Week. If I remember correctly, I suggested horror movies last year. I'll do it again this year by first suggesting "Behind the Mask: the Rise of Leslie Vernon." Don't let that awful title thwart you. It's actually a very clever mockumentary about a young man's attempt to become a classic serial killer/horror movie icon. Go check it out, you'll be glad you did. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of cardio training.
