AKIRA

According to Slashfilm, Zac Efron is in talks to to star in the film. Well, maybe. "I’m not able to confirm the offer, but one source tells me Efron is in talks, while another says that it is “far from a done deal," writes Slashfilm's Peter Sciretta. Following up on that lead, Bloody Disgusting has heard Morgan Freeman is up for the Colonel. Sounds like steam is picking up for the film, at the very least.

Release date: TBA

SUPERMAN (BEGINS)

With the new film happening, focus is shifting to casting. The rumors and speculation can range from the obvious, like Tom Welling and Brandon Routh, or to wrestler types like John Cena and Dwayne Johnson. Both are mentioned by The Examiner as being in the running. I guess to some it seems natural as modern superheroes are often drawn to have that wrestler physique.

Release date: 2012?

SPIDER-MAN (BEGINS)

While describing himself at a "British fool" at AFI's Young Hollywood roundtable (as covered by The Hollywood Reporter), new Spider-Man Andrew Garfield offered this angle on his casting: "I see it like 'Hamlet' or any Shakespeare play. Every actor is going to play King Lear differently because every actor is a different person." Is it just me, or does he say things like this an awful lot?

Release date: May 28th, 2012

COWBOY NINJA VIKING

As our pals at Spinoff Online reported yesterday, Disney has picked up the rights to the book with "Zombieland" screenwriters Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese set to write and produce the screen adaptation. According to the article, the series is about "the child of a psychotherapist who recruits patients with multiple personality disorder to create a unit of counter-intelligence agents called the Triplets. When those agents become out-of-control assassins, the deadliest Triplet of them all, Cowboy Ninja Viking, is called in to take them down."

Release date: TBA

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER

Those intrepid British fans at Comic Book Movie have more photos from the set, including this HYDRA tank:

Starring Chris Evans, release date: July 22nd, 2011

SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK

Julie Taymor, director of the "Spider-Man" musical, tells Showbiz 411 she's a little dismayed by the way the production is treated in the media. "This is a time of terrible unemployment. We have around 200 people involved in this, being paid every week. Do we really want to see them lose their jobs? It’s unbelievable."

Release date: 2011?

BATMAN LIVE

That crazy heat wave finally broke, we had some late night rain and it was even cold enough over the weekend for the tradtional Fall chicken pot pies to be baked.
