Mark Ruffalo teases MTV News with the possibility that the Hulk will be the film's bad guy:
Directed by Joss Whedon & starring everybody, release date: May 4th, 2012
THE DARK KNIGHT RISES
A rumor about unused Heath Ledger footage emerged again over the last couple of days, but it's turned out to be a lot of hot Internet air. '''It’s just not real,' says a contact at Warner Bros in relation to a news item suggesting that, thanks to CGI and some unused footage from the previous flick, Ledger will reprise his 'Joker' role for 'Dark Knight Rises.'" writes Moviehole. I think we can all agree that would be in poor taste.
Release date: July 20th, 2012
COWBOYS & ALIENS
In my final set visit report, I spoke with writer Roberto Orci. He talked about going to a special film school hosted by executive producer Steven Spielberg. "[Spielberg] got a new print of 'The Searchers' and he took me and Jon and Alex [Kurtzman] and Damon [Lindelof] to the Warner Brothers Theater. It was a DVD commentary, live, with Spielberg ... It's like, 'Okay, where's the horizon? Why do you think the horizon is there? What is the horizon's relationship to the actors mean about the scene?' And we're taking notes," he recalled.
Starring Daniel Craig, release date: July 29th, 2011
X-MEN: FIRST CLASS
IGN reports Ray Wise -- Lealand Palmer of "Twin Peaks" fame -- has joined the cast as the Secretary of State. He tells IGN his scenes may entail some special effects. "Well, I think I touch on them, yeah, a bit," he offered.
Release date: June 3rd, 2011
GHOST RIDER 2: SPIRITS OF VENGEANCE
Nic Cage tells io9 that the sequel will reveal a different side of Johnny Blaze. "He's become a lot more sarcastic, now that his head has been ignited." I just want to stop here and congratulate Cage for constructing the best English sentence ever devised. He continues, "Unlike the first one where he was trying to keep it at bay. Now he's been living with the Ghost Rider for some time, there's a lot more irony with the character. His outlook isn't as quite naive as it once was." He also praises the new directors, Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor for their inventiveness and knowledge of film. He even namechecks "War of the Gargantuas."
Release date: February 17th, 2012
BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER
As our pals at Spinoff Online reported, creator Joss Whedon passed on the opportunity to be involved in the remake. "Buffy rights holder Fran Rubel Kuzui and husband Kaz approached Whedon last year with the opportunity to get involved in the developing remake. But Whedon reportedly passed on the offer, opting instead to work on new projects including 'The Avengers' for Marvel Studios," they write. I imagine "The Avengers" offer was a sweeter deal than making "Buffy" again.
Release date: TBA
SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK
In bizarre twist of fate, Bono reveals to MTV News just who's who in his relationship with The Edge:
THE WALKING DEAD
Spinoff Online also reports the writing staff of the show have been fired. Hu-wah!? "[Executive Producer Frank] Darabont, a filmmaker whose only previous TV credit is 'The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones,' is considering using freelance writers for the show’s second season, a move that could lead to logistical problems as well as conflicts with the Writers Guild" In TV, a group of writers usually break the year's storylines together and assign individual episodes to the various members of staff with one or two scripts assigned to freelancers. While no decision has been made yet, it appears Darabont is more comfortable without the writer's room. "Babylon 5" eventually lost its writing staff when creator J. Michael Straczynski began writing every episode late in that show's second year.
Finale airs: Sundays
After the excitement of the early part of the week, things seem kind of causal today. I picked up "Epic Mickey" and boy does the camera annoy me. It's a reminder why I don't play Wii games much anymore. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of Nintendo backlash.
