THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Various sites are talking about this post on Batman-on-Film: "I can tell you who [Tom Hardy] is NOT playing: Hugo Strange. This comes to me via a very solid source, so you can at least start heading to the bank with it. Who IS Hardy going to play? We'll know in early 2011...or so I hear." Strange, along with Hardy playing him and the entire film being based on the "Prey" storyline is a pretty strong rumor. It all sounds like the sort of villains, themes, and ideas director Christopher Nolan likes to work with. That said, it is still only just a rumor ... one that only gets play because the Nolan "Batman" cycle is so secretive. Just to do some rumor control, here are the facts: Tom Hardy will appear, along with the returning Christian Bale in the title role, in a film directed by Christopher Nolan. Everything else is up for grabs.

Release date: July 20th, 2012

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

Kevin Bacon discussed his role in the film with Philadelphia Style (via Comic Book Movie). "I’m more one of those sit-in-my-chair-and-destroy-the-world type of guys," he says of his Sebastian Shaw character. He's leaving the action to the younger guys.

MAINTENANCE

Jim Massey's comic book has found a new film studio home at DreamWorks Animation, according to The Hollywood Reporter. They describe the project as "the exploits of two janitors who work for TerroMax, Inc., the world's biggest and best evil science think tank. When they're not dealing with toxic spill monsters and menial time machine repairs, they have to contend with their boss, a multitude of mad scientists, jetpack-equipped cavemen, alien repomen, and the cute girl who works at reception." A film based on the comic was previously being developed at Warner Bros for McG to direct. Now having moved studios, there is no director or star attached.

ALIEN BEGINS

Various sites are also reporting artist H.R. Giger is returning to the "Alien" franchise. This stems fro ma report on AVPGalaxy, which states the artist's wife, Carmen Scheifele, confirmed he's returning to give his 1978 designs an update. There's even video (in German):

CHRISTMAS WEEK

It's just a few days before Christmas and I still have plenty to do. Wrap some presents, bake some cookies, watch "Die Hard" and so on. With the constant rain in town, it actually feels sort of Wintry. Makes for a nice change. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of eating all those cookies.
