SPIDER-MAN (BEGINS)

According to The Los Angeles Times, the film is a boon to the local economy as it is part of a group of films staying in town instead of filming in places like Louisiana, Vancouver, and London. Those places offer heavy tax-breaks and other incentives to get productions to leave Southern California. "The latest Spider-Man film alone will employ nearly 1,000 crew members, including construction workers building sets for the production, which takes up seven stages on the Sony Pictures lot," they write. A Sony spokesman told the paper that staying in town also allows the production better security and access to their in-house special effects crew.

Release date: May 28th, 2012

GREEN LANTERN

Crave Online has an interview with concept artist Neville Page about working on the film. "Well we had to be true to the franchise and fair to the fan base. If you're given some of these crazy characters, they need to be recognizable as that character as much as you can," he says. "It was an inspiration, of course, because you're seeing these ideas that are just so creative, but sometimes they are so creative that it really poses a challenge of how to make this viable and plausible and real on camera. When you have some wacky thing standing next to Ryan Reynolds for example, that's when you really balance the expectation of the franchise with infusing the character with a sense of life

Starring Ryan Reynolds, release date: June 17th, 2011

THE GREEN HORNET

Yahoo has a new featurette about the film which offers a closer look at the title character and Kato.

Staring Seth Rogen, release date: January 14th, 2011

SUPERMAN (BEGINS)

Mandy Moore as Lois Lane? When Moviehole told her a fan would like to see it, she laughed and said, "Really!? Wow! Me?…. Thanks! I’ll get right on that! Let’s get them on the horn and talk!" Her "Tangled" co-star Zachary Levi added, "I’ve already turned [Superman] down [Laughs]. They talked to me about it, and I decided it was a pretty sad part." I guess someone wasn't interested in six months of being in a harness and shooting all the flying scenes.

Release date: 2012?

TRON LEGACY

Director Joseph Kosinski talked with Spinoff Online about some of the plot threads buried in the film and the dangling plot hooks left open for a sequel. It's filled with spoilers, so use caution if you haven't seen the film. Since I haven't mentioned it yet, I loved "Tron Legacy" in almost the same uncomplicated way I love the original. Does that mean I have blinders on for some of the film's flaws? Sure, but the style of the film won me over and I would think I'd be the hardest part of the audience to please. Meanwhile, Kosinski also mentions his remake of Disney's other early sci-fi flick, "The Black Hole." He says the film is not a continuation of the original, which stared Ernest Borgnine and Robert Forrester. "It's really, for me, the fundamental concept of what would it be like to take a journey through a black hole, knowing what we know about them today. We know so much more about them than they did in 1979. I'm really interested in taking a hard science approach, really exploring the phenomenon that surrounds these black holes. I'm excited about what you can do dramatically within that kind of incredible concept."

Starring Jeff Bridges, release date: out now!

HUMAN TARGET

An intrepid YouTuber posted this clip from tonight's episode, "The Other Side of the Mall:"

SMALLVILLE

Assignment X talked with executive producers Brian Petersen and Kelly Souders about the later half of the season. They mention the possibility of seeing Zod one more time. "We have hopes of having one great Zod episode. Nothing in stone, but we’re hopeful for this year," says Souders. As for the last episode, Petersen offers, "I think we succeed best when we do both. When we can pull off both, that’s when we’ve done our job. When we do something surprising and satisfying.

Returns: January 28th, 2011

Today is it. My last day to do any shopping, holiday or grocery, until after Christmas. I may have a few last minute items to get, but it should be easy if I stat early.
