X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

So, the preview image that caused so much trouble on Tuesday is back:

It's better quality than before, but still looks a bit ... off. "When I found out, I said, what the fuck is this shit, and Fox is running around trying to figure out what happened as well. I agree. It's like a bad Photoshop, which maybe it was by someone. It didn't reflect the movie. I was shocked when I saw it," says director Matthew Vaughn to Slashfilm. My guess, someone at Fox put it together for the round of interviews going up this week and just didn't get it approved by anyone involved in the production. I also bet said person may be looking for a job. Meanwhile, our pals at Spinoff Online have a roundup of all the photos from yesterday's blitz of new info, including this shot of Kevin Bacon with serious sideburns and January Jones with serious ... um, playing Emma Frost:

They also have new photos of Magneto, Professor X and a pretty cool teaser poster that premiered on Ain't It Cool News. And if that isn't enough, The Los Angeles Times Hero Complex blog has a report from the "stressed out" set of the film, Moviefone has an interview with Kevin Bacon, who plays Sebastian Shaw in the film, and IGN talks with January Jones about playing the White Queen. With all this "X-Men" news, you'd think they were combating some cross-town rival's announcement...

Release date: June 3rd, 2011

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

As we reported here at CBR yesterday, Anne Hathaway has been cast as Selina Kyle in the film. Along with that announcement, Warner Bros disclosed actor Tom Hardy will be playing Bane in the film. Yes, Bane, The super-smart luchador guy. Dollars to donuts says he'll be a member of the League of Shadows and possibly the new Ra's Al Ghul because "you can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea." As for Hathaway ... the choice for the female roles in this series has always been the weakest link. I'm not going to entertain who I might've chosen because I'm not the one in the driver seat, so to say.

Release date: July 20th, 2012

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER

Co-star Sebastian Stan tells MTV News he got along with star Chris Evans. "I love that guy. Not only did he really fill out his shoes in terms of being a leader and taking the movie on his shoulders — he did that very naturally, he's a natural leader — but we also got along so well."

Starring Chris Evans, release date: July 22nd, 2011

GREEN LANTERN

French language site Cinemateaser (via Spinoff Online) has a new still from the film, featuring Hal Jordan and Hector Hammond in normal, earthly appearances:

Starring Ryan Reynolds, release date: June 17th, 2011

SPACE PIRATE COBRA

Cinemateaser also has an interview with director Alexander Aja, who is taking on the classic manga as a live action film. Collider provides the translation in which Aja explains, "Its tone has no equal. This project is a huge challenge, because it's going be a space opera. I envision it as a sort of Star Wars. I just have to convince all the financial partners now." Hopefully he means the original "Star Wars" trilogy. He certain can't mean the prequels because "Cobra" is meant to be kind of sexy, not sexless. "You have to respect the essence of Cobra. He's an adventurer and a seducer. Its 'sexiness' has to be included in the film, just like its humor and adventure. My Cobra has to remain true to Terasawa's universe," he says about that aspect of the series.

Release date: TBA

JOHN CARTER OF MARS

It's been a long time since I talked about this film, now that it's in post production in a suite of edit bays and computer animation stands. The latest bit of news is a bump in its release date. According to Deadline, the film -- previously set to open June 8th, 2012 -- will now debut a few months earlier in March. In fact, they're setting it up against Ridley Scott's "Prometheus," the quasi-"Alien" prequel. I don't know if that's brave or foolhardy. Time will tell. It always does.

Directed by Andrew Stanton, release date: March 9th, 2012

SUPER BOWL TRAILERS

According to The Hollywood Reporter, expect to see trailers for "Thor," "Captain America," and "Cowboys & Aliens" amongst the summer movie fare premering TV spots during Super Bowl XLV.

Airs: February 6th, 2011

SMALLVILLE

This YouTuber has a rather long and interesting clip from the upcoming episode "Collateral." Watch at your own peril:

Airs: January 29th, 2011

UNDER THE WEATHER

So I have my first cold of 2011. Mercifully, it's not too bad and with a phoner interview later today and an unlikely set visit to write up, I'll be hitting up the Jamba Juice Coldbuster for strength and some Chloraseptic drops to keep my throat from feeling irritated. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of being sick for the weekend.
