Deadline reports that actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt is in talks to appear in "The Dark Knight Rises." While his role is unknown at this time, Deadline's Mike Fleming writes, "I'm told that he will be in the movie when Nolan starts production this spring."
Gordon-Levitt appeared alongside Tom Hardy in director Christopher Nolan's previous film, "Inception." Since that time, the fan community assumed the young actor would appear in the film in some capacity. While it is easy to see the resemblance to the late Heath Ledger and think of the Joker, he could appear as just about any character from Anarky to Dick Grayson.
Director Nolan is famously secretive about the plot lines of his films -- the "Batman Begins" cycle in particular -- and speculation on casting, plot threads, and characters run rampant. Hardy was only recently revealed as playing Bane in the new film despite the widespread belief he would be taking on the crazed Doctor Hugo Strange. Rumors of the Strange character appearing in the film still persist. Anne Hathaway was also announced as playing Selina Kyle, though it is currently unknown if she will appear as that character's feline persona.
According to the Deadline article, Gordon-Levitt will complete shooting "Looper" for director Rian Johnson by the time filming on "Rises" begins. The actor first worked with Johnson on the hard-boiled high school thriller "Brick." He also has a number of films soon to be released. "Gordon-Levitt has the indie 'Hesher' coming out this spring, as well as 'Live With It,' the Jonathan Levine-directed pic about a 27-year old who tries to overcome a cancer diagnosis," writes Fleming.
At one time, Gordon-Levitt was rumored to be in consideration for The Riddler, but since Nolan announced that character would not appear in the film, the matter was largely dropped. Is it possible the plan has changed?
