THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Over the weekend, a rumor broke out that Marion Cotillard signed on for a role in the film. The story begins in the French newspaper Le Figaro, but Batman News provides the translation:

Marion Cotillard in “Batman 3″. The actress, who is expecting a child in the spring with Guillaume Canet, will be scarce this year. She’ll do a single film and her choice fell on Batman 3. This blockbuster produced by Warner Bros.. enables her to work with the director Christopher Nolan, with whom she had turned very successful sci-fi Inception. Marion Cotillard will join the filming this summer in Los Angeles. She will share the bill with Anne Hathaway.

It is still an unconfirmed report, and Ain't It Cool News is suggesting she might be Talia, Ra's Al Ghul's daughter. With the story out there, some confirmation or denial will be issued shortly.

Release date: July 20th, 2012

AKIRA

According to Just Jared (via Latino Review), actor James Franco -- he of soap opera stints and a class on documentary production -- is in talks to play Kaneda in "Akira." Oh, wait. I mean KAAAANEEEEEDDAAAAA! "The film is set in New Manhattan, where the leader of a biker gang saves his friend from a medical experiment," they write. I imagine the names will probably change, too. Though it's hard to think of Western names shouted with the same convinction as Tetsuo and Kaneda.

Release date: TBA

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER

Tommy Lee Jones tells the Vulture a little bit about his role in the film. "The character I play is the one you've seen in a thousand movies: the gruff, skeptical officer overseeing a team of talented, slightly sarcastic, specially talented soldiers," he says. He is equally cryptic talking about "Men in Black III," saying, "I don't want to say too much about the movie because I don't know a lot and I would like for audiences to anticipate buying a ticket." Now that's the savvy of a veteran actor.

Starring Chris Evans, release date: July 22nd, 2011

I AM LEGION

As our pals at Spinoff Online reported, the Fabien Nury/John Cassaday comic book is coming to the big screen care of director Nacho Cerda and screenwriter Richard Stanley -- both of "The Abandoned" fame. According to the article, the story focuses on "a World War II plot by Nazis to control the powers of a 10-year-old vampire while Allied forces scramble to uncover how their own ranks have been infiltrated by Hitler's elite." The best thing about stories using the Nazi obsession with the occult is that it's true. The Nazis really did look for odd relics and dabble in arcane knowledge. It makes for great story material.

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

MTV News has Micheal Fassbender's thoughts on the trailer:

Release date: June 3rd, 2011

WONDER WOMAN

DC Women Kicking Ass got its hands on the casting sheet for the series. Here's the description of Diana:

Female, late 20s to 30s. A kick-ass Superhero / Powerful C.E.O. / A vulnerable woman. Long flowing black hair, blue eyes. Amazon-like, muscular, an Olympian. The charismatic stage presence of a rock star. A crime fighter. Also, a real woman who yearns to live a normal life. She is accessible and appealing to all people, men and women alike

SMALLVILLE

After a week of hand-wringing and "will he or won't he" stories, TV Line reports Michael Rosenbaum will reprise his Lex Luthor for the "Smallville" two-hour finale. "I'm simply doing it for all of the fans out there who made Smallville the great success it is. I appreciate all of their passion, their relentlessness, and even their threats. Ha ha," says the actor. Ever since the tenth season was announced as the last for the series, Rosenbaum has been the show's white whale. He last appeared as the character in the program's seventh season.

HEART DAY

Yeah, it's that day. And I can think of no better way to celebrate it than with a clip from "Indonesian Supergirl."

Seriously though, a happy and normal blood-sugar filled V-Day to all, including my someone special, Heather. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous.
