SPIDER-MAN (BEGINS)

And so, I retire another "Begins" tag as the "Spider-Man" reboot film finally has an official title -- "The Amazing Spider-Man." As we reported yesterday here at CBR, Sony released the title with this image of star Andrew Garfield in full Spidey gear:

The title, of course, comes from the first and longest running "Spider-Man" comic series. I recall at least a friend or two who were disappointed the original "Spider-Man" trilogy did not use this title for any of the films. With the presumed return of the mechanical web-shooters, the focus on Peter's high school years, and the need to separate itself from the previous trio of films, "The Amazing Spider-Man" seems like an apt title. I suppose we should also get ready for the tagline, "The Summer Will Be ... Amazing!"

Release date: July 2nd, 2012

THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marion Cotillard is "in discussions" to appear in the film. Once again, the wording here is key. If she were "in talks," then it's simply a matter of ironing out a contract. Any other form of talking -- including meetings, discussions, chats, drinks, or a round of mini-golf -- is informal. As the actress's rep put it to THR, "Nothing has been confirmed yet." Meanwhile, this supposed set photo appeared on the JoBlo message boards:

While it could be the first set pic from the new production, Geoff Boucher of the L.A. Times tells Batman-News he stood on those steps during the filming of "Inception." As Batman-News puts it, "Arkham Asylum could very well make its return in 'The Dark Knight Rises', but the set pictured here has been standing for at least six years." So, is it just a standing set or will someone visit the asylum in the new film? Time will tell, of course.

Release date: July 20th, 2012

PREACHER

Slashfilm hears word that D.J. Caruso may be coming to the project as its director. "This is said to be all dependent on the box office of his latest film, 'I Am Number Four.' I have not been able to double source this rumor," writes Slashfilm's Peter Scrietta. Currently, there is a script by writer John August in the hands of producer Neil Moretz. If the rumor proves true, Caruso may want his own re-write.

Release date: TBA

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

Josh Wilding at Comic Book Movie spotted this second logo in an international trailer for the film:

It is not unusual for different logos and title cards to appear in a film (or its marketing) in international markets.

Release date: June 3rd, 2011

THOR

Comicus.it has an interview with Paradox Pollack, the movement and choreography director on the film. He spoke of the film's director Kenneth Branagh. "We sat and spoke a few times choosing carefully the strategy for getting the best out of the cast. It was an honor to work with him closely these few times," he said. "Kenneth is a creative and respectful artist. He works in a focused manner and with deep consideration for the actors working on the project. From the moment we met he saw the value of my job and encouraged me to do my best work. As I did my job well, I was given more and more responsibility. He called for me by Doxy, which I loved hearing across the set."

Starring Chris Hemsworth, release date: May 6th, 2011

SMALLVILLE

As we reported here at CBR yesterday, Superboy is coming to the show! Actor Lucas Gabreel will play Connor Kent in an upcoming episode. We even have a photo:

Airs: Fridays

TURN OFF THE INJURIES

With the "Spider-Man" musical more famous for its injuries than its quality, "Saturday Night Live" turns its attention to the troubled production with this commercial spoof:

Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of the March 15th opening.
