Official Press Release

SAN FRANCISCO (January 28, 2004) AiT/Planet Lar publisher Larry Young

announced today the appearance of Warren Ellis and Brandon McKinney's

SWITCHBLADE HONEY on the list of nominees for the14th Annual Diamond

Comics Distributors Gem Award in the Original Graphic Novel category.

"I couldn't be more proud of Warren and Brandon, and I'm glad Diamond's

crack team of product specialists singled out the book for this honor. I

know that lots of folks originally dismissed SWITCHBLADE HONEY as a

Warren-does-STAR-TREK kind of riff, but this really puts the kibosh on

that, and lets people see it as its own thing."

"The 2003 Gem Award nominees embody the finest of what the comics

industry has to offer," explained Diamond President and CEO Steve Geppi.

"While all of Diamond's suppliers and their products are important

facets of the specialty market overall, the Gems offer our customers a

wonderful opportunity to honor those that have been particularly

beneficial in helping their businesses grow during the past year."

Selected by a panel of Diamond product specialists, nominees were chosen

on the basis of their overall impact on the industry and merits of their

quality, creativity, and sales performance over the last year.

"Particularly gratifying about the SWITCHBLADE nomination," said

AiT/Planet Lar production coordinator (and SWITCHBLADE HONEY letterer)

Ryan Yount "is that it's in the Original Graphic Novel category. I mean,

that's what we're known for, and it's nice to see Diamond and our

retailer pals give our hard work the nod."

Retailers cast their votes for the Gem Award with ballots issued in the

February Previews Order Form or via the Initial Order Entry feature of

Diamond Online's Retailer Services Area, which also contains a complete

list of nominees.
