GHOST RIDER 2: SPIRITS OF VENGEANCE

While at South By Southwest supporting the film "The FP," co-director Brian Taylor offers Movieline a few words about the "Ghost Rider" sequel. "We're just looking at it as an evolution. The movie takes place years later," he says. "We're not disowning the first movie but this Ghost Rider is an evolved form of the previous Ghost Rider. And the mythology that went behind it is stuff that never got delved into in the first movie, anyway. Like, they don't talk about who the demon is from when Johnny Blaze becomes the Ghost Rider. We get into that and really get into who that guy is, what his story is, and what makes GR the way that he is."

Release date: February 17th, 2012

THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN: THE SECRET OF THE UNICORN

Simon Pegg and Nick Frost spoke with The Los Angeles Times Hero Complex about the film. "It was like he had a new train set," said Pegg of the director Steven Spielberg's first use of all the digital tricks employed to make the film. "There was a genuine sense of novelty to him." Both actors wore motion capture suits in order to lend their performances to the animated characters in the final product. "It was like rehearsing a play, like when you’re a kid and you're pretending that thing over there could be the Millennium Falcon," explained Frost. In a separate article for Hero Complex, the director reveals why he chose to go with the animated tool kit for this project."It was based on my respect for the art of Hergé and wanting to get as close to that art as I could," he said.

Directed by Steven Spielberg, release date: December 23, 2011

THOR

That French trailer from last week now comes in English with French subtitles (via Superhero Hype):

Starring Chris Hemsworth, release date: May 6th, 2011

PROMETHEUS

According to Deadline, actor Logan Marshall-Green will play the male lead in the "Alien" quasi-prequel. The actor will play "Holloway, a crewman on the space ship and the love interest for the character played by Noomi Rapace." Of course, love interests in the "Alien" franchise have a habit of turning up dead, so he better keep a pulse rifle handy.

Release date: June 8th, 2012

THE SANDMAN

As we reported here at CBR yesterday, "The Sandman" TV project has stalled out. "Unfortunately, for a lot of varying reasons, Sandman is not in the works, at least for this season," said "Supernatural" creator Eric Kripke, who was tapped to adapt the comic book series for television. I imagine the "varying reasons" lead back to money. A pilot episode could be quite expensive.

Airdate: TBA

NO ORDINARY FAMILY

Another signal of cancellation goes off as TVLine reports that star Julie Benz has also been cast in a new pilot. This new show (for CBS) centers on "Michael (Patrick Wilson), an ultra-competitive surgeon whose life is changed forever when his ex-wife (Jennifer Ehle), a doctor running a free clinic, dies and begins teaching him what life is all about from the hereafter." Benz will play the lead's sister, described as "an unfocused and overwhelmed single mother with a huge heart." Last week, "No Ordinary Family" star Michael Chiklis signed up for the CBS comedy "Vince Uncensored." While the show has not been canceled yet, the fact its two leads went looking for other work gives the impression they do not expect it to return.

Airs: Tuesdays

BATMAN: THE BRAVE AND THE BOLD

TV Guide has a quick preview of an upcoming episode that features a reunion of sorts with Scooby and the gang. "'Batman's Strangest Cases' celebrates various parodies of the Caped Crusader, including an old Mad magazine spoof, unauthorized Japanese manga and campy Scooby-Doo Meets Batman cartoons from the 1970s," they write. In the episode, this will be accomplished by the Paul Reubens voiced Bat-Mite. The "Scooby-Doo" segment will feature the cast of the most recent series, "Mystery Incorporated" and utilize the model-sheets from the first time Batman met the gang in the 1970s. "It looks, for good or ill, like it was done in 1973.... If you put it up against those old episodes, I don't know if the untrained eye would be able to tell the difference," says producer James Tucker.

WONDER WOMAN

On Location Vacations posted a few more shooting times and locations for the pilot on their Twitter account. "A couple more 4 Wonder Woman in L.A Tues.: 700 W. 5th St (6:00 A.M. – 10:00 P.M., through Wed). 515 S. Figueroa St (6:00 A.M. – 10:00 P.M.)" they write. I still want pictures if any of you venture out that way.

Airdate: TBA

SMALLVILLE

Laura Vandervoort offers the Australian Armageddon Expo(via Killer Film) a few details about her last appearance on the show. "I just shot my last episode, it's called 'Prophecy.' I can't say what number it is, I am not sure they have announced it yet. It's going to be great, we're going to wrap up Kara's storyline and hopefully give the fans what they've been looking for. It was sad to say good-bye to everyone, everybody was kind of upset that the show was ending, the crew and the cast everyone's a family. It's been a great show, a good experience and I was sad to say good-bye to Kara." Meanwhile, Kristin Kreuk tells Hollywoodlife.com that she won't be watching the series finale when it airs:

As TVLine reports, the actress later clarified her position via her Facebook page. "There is no personal reason why I am not watching 'Smallville' weekly. Honestly, I never really did," she writes. "I know people want to make it a drama ... but there is really no drama." I guess with the Rosenbaum situation resolved, it was time to move on to the other departed regular from the series.

SHILLING

This won't turn into a "Star Wars" week, but Fanboy spotted this old commercial featuring George Lucas and his "surprise" at the Maclord C Movie video camera. I'm guessing this was shot not long after "Return of the Jedi."

Even then, it's clear that he's uncomfortable with his status and the fame "Star Wars" brought him. Meanwhile, if any of you in the great, wide Internet discover something awesome, disheartening, or just plain weird, let us know! Take credit, come up with a clever nickname, or go anonymous. The choice is yours. Fresh rumors and movie news every weekday morning. I am Erik Amaya, bracing for the future threat of Steven Spielberg selling products.
