THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

According to Variety's Showblitz blog, actress Juno Temple has been confirmed for a role in the film. "The indie darling is locked in and set to begin shooting early this summer. Not 100% certain on the role yet, but we're hearing she'll play a 'street-smart Gotham girl,' so it' s not sounding like anything more than a small part," they write. Some have suggested she might be playing Selina Kyle's quasi-sidekick Holly Robinson. As for Temple, she has appeared in such films as "Notes on Scandal," "Year One," and "Greenberg."

Release date: July 20th, 2012

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN

Though we're still more than year from the film's release, writer James Vanderbilt is already on board to draft a sequel, according to Heat Vision. "Vanderbilt had a meeting with the 'Spider-Man' filmmakers and studio execs yesterday outlining his take, getting a thumbs up, and will now begin writing," they report. I wonder if it will be called "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" or if they'll use one of the other comic titles like "The Spectacular Spider-Man" or "The Web of Spider-Man." Actually, that's a pretty good naming scheme for a series of films.

XERXES

Zack Snyder tells MTV News that he has a finished script:

Release date: TBA

SUPERMAN (BEGINS)

Deadline reports that actor Michael Shannon may also be in the running for an unnamed villain role in the reboot. Considering that both Shannon and Edgar Ramirez, the other actor reportedly up for the part, have looks that aren't really classic "Lex Luthor," I'm hoping they're trying out for Brainiac. He's made of metal and Superman can hit him. With his fists. Meanwhile, director Zack Snyder tells Heat Vision that "I've stretched this world of abstract reality so far [with 'Sucker Punch'] that the awesome thing about 'Superman' is that Superman lives in the real world." Well, a real world with an alien who can bend the rules of physics. Other than that, Superman's world is pretty realistic ... at least until he joins the Justice League or Darkseid invades.

Release date: 2012?

GHOST RIDER 2: SPIRITS OF VENGEANCE

Johnny Whitworth talks with Shock Till You Drop about working with Nicolas Cage in the "Ghost Rider" requel or seboot. "Oh, Nic Cage, Nic Cage and Nic Cage because Nic Cage is awesome," he says. "Nic is kind of such an interesting character as himself. And not that he plays himself, but that as a springboard lends itself to interesting choices. So I don't know if he looks for things or just more for- he looks for the experience of doing things, you know. And I would tend to believe he looks for the experience."

Release date: February 17th, 2012

GREEN LANTERN

The lads at Comic Book Movie spotted the cover for the "Green Lantern" tie-in game, "Rise of the Manhunters." It features star Ryan Reynolds in a new pose:

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS

Spinoff Online points out that the official Facebook page features brief character bios; like this one for Oliver Platt's Man in Black: "As his mysterious moniker suggests, works for a covert government agency whose mission is to guard, and when appropriate, exploit our most explosive secrets. He enlists the assistance of mutants – and finds himself at the vortex of a battle that will determine the fate of humankind."

Release date: June 3rd, 2011

SUCKER PUNCH

Zack Snyder tells Spinoff Online that the film is very much like a video game. "What I was trying to do with this movie in some ways is use the … classic sort of Joseph Campbell-ian 'heroes go on a journey, collect a boon, come back and get a reward,'" he says. "Once you set that in a world of combat, people make game associations with the movie."

Release date: Today!

CHEW

As we reported here at CBR yesterday, John Layman and Rob Guillory's "Chew" will join Showtime's roster of quirky series. "Californication's" Stephen Hopkins will produce. According to our article, the series is about a "cibopath who can see the past life and eventual death of anything he eats who lives in a world where poultry is outlawed thanks to a sweeping bird flu pandemic."

Airdate: TBA

WONDER WOMAN

According to Deadline, actor Justin Bruening has been cast as Steve Trevor in the pilot. They describe the character as "a leading man Diana can't look past, an army vet who now works in the Justice department." Funny how characters like Steve Trevor become important again when a long running comic book leaps to another medium. That said, I liked Nathan Fillion's take on him in the DC Universe "Wonder Woman" animated feature.

Airdate: TBA

SMALLVILLE

TVLine offers this glimpse at the upcoming episode, "Kent."

It seems that Clark has slipped into that other reality where all of his friends hate him again.

Returns: April 15th, 2011
