Another day brimming with press for the film. First off, director Kenneth Branagh and star Chris Hemsworth talk about the film with The Telegraph in the UK. The video autoloads, so I'll keep it behind the link, but Branagh talks about the excitement in having people anxious for the film. Next up, Harry Knowles at Ain't It Cool News offers heaps of praise to the movie, saying Hemsworth has the "charisma of a fucking God!" As for the film itself, he writes, "This is so much more of 'Thor' than ever really hoped I'd get in a first 'Thor' movie." Meanwhile, Bleeding Cool spotted this game on Marvel's UK site for the film where you play as Thor and fight Frost Giants. Finally, promotional partner Dr. Pepper (via Comic Book Movie) has unveiled its "Thor" tie-in contest with a new commercial that even features a Stan Lee cameo:
Starring Chris Hemsworth, release date: May 6th, 2011
THE LONE RANGER
According to Entertainment Weekly, actor Ryan Gosling will not play the title character. The actor's schedule, unfortunately, does not match up with the production's and, thus, the search continues for someone to ride with Johnny Depp's Tonto.
Release date: TBA
CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE FIRST AVENGER
Star Chris Evans talked with USA Weekend (via Mania) about the film. He admitted to almost passing on the role because he was afraid of the extra things that come with playing a lead character in a big movie. "I said to someone close to me, 'I was offered this movie and I think I'm going to say no." And she said, 'No, you're not. You're going to do this movie,'" he recalled. "I said, "Why?" And she said, "Because you can't live your life based on fear." That's a really good point: I think I'd end up having more regret if I didn't do it because I was scared than if I did it, and whatever comes, comes. At least I wasn't a coward."
Starring Chris Evans, release date: July 22nd, 2011
GROO THE WANDERER
During an interview with CBR, Sergio Aragonés talks about the possibility of a "Groo" movie. "It's actually been in the process for a long time. It's been there. People have tried to buy it. Some of them have wanted to exclude me of the project and others haven't agreed on the economic-side," he says. "It's mostly to the lawyers and accountants to decide. But, oh yeah, it will be there."
Release date: TBA
X-MEN: FIRST CLASS
Comicus.it talks with actor Alex Gonzales, who plays Riptide in the film. "In my humble opinion the biggest difference - not only comparing this movie with the previous ones, but also with the rest of the action movies - is that this one talks about friendship, politics, love and what means feeling different than the rest of the people," he says. "And of course it has the best visual effects you've ever seen." Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence Daily (via Latino Review), has a new photo of the actress in Mystique make-up and X-Men garb:
See? The yellow and blue uniforms could've always worked!
Release date: June 3rd, 2011
SPIDER-MAN: TURN OFF THE DARK
According to Deadline, the musical will go dark (heh) for three weeks to "implement all the changes from the original Julie Taymor-directed musical that were made by replacement director Philip William McKinley and playwright/comic book writer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa." Expect a new round of reviews once people see the altered production.
Opens: June 14th, 2011 ... maybe
THE WALKING DEAD
Here at CBR, creator Robert Kirkman talks about working in the TV show's writing room. "We had a funny exchange the other day where one of the writers suggested something absolutely horrible for one of the characters. It was really gut-wrenching, and it was definitely something that was like the coolest moments of the comic where you just go 'Holy crap! This just happened!'" he says. "And after he said it, everybody stopped and looked around the room. Glen Mazzara, who's running the room, said 'This is great. This is what's so good about being on this show. You know these discussions don't happen in any other writer's room on any other show. We can do anything to these characters, and it isn't too much. It fits. The parameters of the show are crazy.'"
Airs: Fall 2011
Kryptonsite has a number of screencaps from the trailer for "Booster," including this one of the superhero doing his thing:
Okay, this one is for all the archeology buffs out there. The BBC (via io9) has uploaded a 1939 broadcast of a pair of trumpets found in the tomb of Tutankhamun. This recording represents the first time the instruments were played in over 3,000 years. Now that's pretty damned cool.
